Has anyone ever shot this match? Seeing its a Sunday AND I don't have to buy a new gun means I want to try it.
For reference I own a M&p shield

So it's still going on ?Awesome!! The website didn't show recent matches It's a hour and some change from me so it's not that bad of a drive.
If you shoot it can you let me know if a alien gear holster is legal Or should I buy a different holster

I don't shoot that match regularly so I don't know since I'm 2.5 hours away, but I expect they are because they are are having a large tier two sanctioned match in late march that I'm shooting and working.

You should be fine. Come out tomorrow and shoot the match at Buccaneer.

They are shooting all matches listed on a regular basis. Several matches were cancelled last fall due to the record level of rain we had and the hurricane screwed several matches up too. They have also transitioned to electronic scoring on practiscore so some of the results may not me listed on the website unless they link it or something. The match this past Sunday had a technical glitch with the scorepads so no results will be posted for it, ended up just making it a fun/practice match. The scheduled qualifier did stand however.

Come on out and shoot, great bunch of guys and a good environment. I will be at the next match if you want to meet up, Ill be glad to help you out. Im not familiar with the alien holster, but as long as its safe to draw from and reholster you should be fine. I generally have an extra gun on hand anyway if you were to have a problem with your set up.

Good on you for finding something that fits yer schedule.
I don't shoot there but I think you'll be fine with the Alien.
When I started in IDPA I was using one and had no problems.
Good luck!

Anthill was started by Basil Watts, Joe Justice, on land owned by John Green's wife. The first match there we had to pull Every vehicle out with a tractor. I shot many thousands of rounds there and ate Way more of the great cooking that was always provided. I won a lot of "iron" from there and always had a great time. I hope all of the originators are still kicking. Last I heard John Green was not doing well. I really miss Basil and Joe, time is flying away.

As long as it's on the center line of your hip I would expect most clubs to accept a new shooter's equipment without too much fuss. If it's unsafe then that would be different as dave33 mentioned. AIWB and SOB are not allowed.

If you already know all this I apologize but I didn't know when I started and it would have been helpful.
If you have three 8 round mags you can compete in CCP. That will help you not need to reload 2x during most stages. If not you can shoot in BUG. You'll be limited to 6 rounds per mag so you can use the 7 rounder. When I use my Shield now I shoot CCP and load my 7 round mag as a Barney mag. Another advantage of shooting with 8 round mags is getting a better grip on the draw. I assume your Alien gear is IWB. When I shoot out of my very low ride iwb I have to draw a little slower to make sure I've got a decent grip with the flush mag in the gun.

If you have questions about shooting a Shield in IDPA pm me. I started shooting IDPA in 2016 or 2017 so still remember the early days. I'll probably ask you to call me though it's a lot easier to explain verbally.

IDPA was 20 years old by this time frame. It, like IPSC from 1976, has started the move away from it's origins also. I fall into the camp that any match where you can test your equipment is a good one. The IDPA of 1996 was far removed from what you see today.

Thanks for all the great information, I just placed an order for 2 more 8 round mags and a carrier. Looking forward to seeing everyone later this month.

Did Joe pass? Joe was a great guy.

Just saw this. I meant I still recall my early days of being a noob shooter not the beginnings of IDPA. Early days as in being lead through what division does my gear fit. What's a stage vs a string. Being given advice after every stage because I needed it. That doesn't happen much any more and I'm sure as time goes on I'll forget what it was like.

@Currituck Kid when's that match?

I'm trying to register And I have a few questions.
I'm assuming I need to register for ccp as I'll be using a shield. But it's my first match and I'm 31. What division and catagory do I choose?

CCP ideally loads 8+1, then 8 and 8 for your two reloads if you have the mags for it. Your division would be CCP and class would be unclassified.

You could shoot in BUG if you wanted but that would limit you to 6 rounds in your mags. In idpa one of their quirky rules is you can only load to your lowest capacity mag, meaning if you have 2 eight round mags and 1 seven round mag you can only use 7 rounds in any of your mags.

That said, the folks there aren’t gonna get in a twist being your first match, they will cut you some slack. Shoot your shield in ccp unclassified and have fun. I’m hoping the weather holds up.

Good point about mag capacity. I think you can carry an additional mag in BUG. *I think*

I'm good with ccp. i have 4 mags of the 8 rounder for the shield.

I registered on the website it said but I haven't paid as it didn't give me an option. Does anyone know if they take a card at the event? or do I need to bring cash?

I am not too familiar with a Shield, but make sure you can seat a fully loaded 8-round magazine in it with the slide forward so you can start most stages with 8 + 1.

I'm loosing track of how many matches have been canceled due to rain already this year.
At this rate I might have to find a new hobby.

So old conversation. I have yet to make that IDPA match. I am once again going to attempt this weekends match. Hopefully, it does not get canceled. Its been so long since I first tried to register that I have forgotten how to register for it.
Can anyone point me to the correct website to register for the anthill IDPA registration? I remember its not on the anthill site but I forget what page.

Is Timberlake still the "straw boss" there? Did you see any of the old guys? Haven't been since about '88. I did stop by for a full auto match when I was there for supper about 2000.
