Anybody here a fan? I've been eyeballing the CZ-45* series online and like what I see. A CZ-452 would be my first choice, with the CZ-455 falling to second place. The CZ-457 needs to be proven before it can make the short list.

This is all Button Pusher's fault: He shared a great deal on some CCI MiniMags and I bought a bunch. Obviously, that required I needed a new rifle to go with it. Thanks, BP!

I bet anyone who has shot one is a fan. They are built like a big rifle in a 22lr package.

The 2 CZ's I have (452 Varmint and American) are very accurate and one of the easiest guns to do a trigger job on I've ever seen. It's a simple spring swap and you're done!!
I measure accuracy by one of my Anschultz rifles and the CZ's can hang in there all day long. I don't think you're going to like the Mini Mags, too fast. Try CCI Std velocity and you'll be happier...

Thank you, Sir. I'm currently down to either the Varmint or the American (standard) variants. Now it's simply a matter of which comes along at a good price first. OK on the Mini Mags. May need to buy ore ammo, too!

I personally feel that the 452 will be more accurate than the 455 because of the barrel being fitted and solidly attached to the receiver versus swap barrel like the 455's. The Varmint, having a bull barrel will shoot longer before barrel heat sets in than the American but up to that point they are both equal...once the trigger is "fixed".....

I lit up a real fire over on the rimfire forum when I asked about the bull vs. pencil barrel. I'm with you; it really does not matter unless you are a moment of flea's eye shooter at 100 yards. I'm not.

I would much prefer or 452, or the impossible-to-find 453 if possible. My limited budget will decide for me when a good deal becomes available.

Had a 452 American in .22lr & 452 Varmint in .17hmr. Amazing guns. Don't know anything about the 455s, but have heard good things about the 457.

I have a 455 varmint that's my go to 22 for anything, really. Seems to like Aguila Super Extra pretty well.
Shot Rifleman with it using a cheap 1-4x scope on the lowest power.

I love my CZ's :D

Your going to find out that the rife is only as good as the ammo you run it with. 22LR is a fickle ammo and its accuracy ( If that's what your looking for) is dependent on how much money you want to spend..Your rifle of choice really depends on what your expecting out of it. Minute of Squirrel or 1/4 inch one hole 10 round groups at 50 yrds ? The CZ 455/452 is fine rifle and Ive owned and competed with one,, another consideration is the Savage MK 2 series with the bull barrel and it costs a bit less. If your looking for an affordable bolt gun, either one of these will suit your needs. But once again, it really depends on how much you are willing to spend on 22lr ammo to achieve your accuracy requirements?

Watch this space for a grand opening. It may be two weeks but it is happening.

1st Clue: I spent more than allocated.

More to follow............................................ ....

My daughter shoots a 455 for Hunter Safety. It loves Ely Target. They only shoot 50', but when I sighted it in from the Bench I could but 5 rounds in one ragged hole. 2 of us shooting it put 10 almost in one ragged hole to finish up @Matt.Cross . Great rifles.

I'm going to have to disagree with that blanket statement. I will concede that each rifle/pistol will have a distinct preference for ammo but it's not always tied to cost. In MY household if a rifle/pistol can't/won't shoot one hole groups at 25 yards it needs to live somewhere else where the standards are a little lower. I have guns that will do that with CCI Std. Velocity and a couple that prefer CCI Mini Mags and then a couple that want Fed 922A Match, none of which cost more then 5.00 per box.

Assuming you are going for accuracy, here is what I did. I took about 8 different types of ammo out to the range. My gun was sighted in but for testing that's not really relevant. I shot each type ammo at it's own Bullseye and picked the one with the tightest group. Then re sighted it with that ammo. There was a pretty wide swing of accuracy. Most would have been acceptable for most people. But when you are shooting for score you don't want those annoying fliers. And some ammo had a tendency to have fliers more than others out of our CZ. My other daughters plinking rifle gets whatever ammo I have close, and she is happy. The CZ for competition if far happier with Ely than any other I tried.

Moral of the story, listen to what folks say about ammo. Grab a box of several kinds. Then see what your gun likes.

It will be interesting. M y rifle will not be here for a little while. It will get he ammo digestion test when it arrives.

Interesting,, back about 4 years ago when I was competing in the bench rest hunter class ? Eley black box is what you had to have to even get close to top shooter. I had to quit competing due to work back then, but my job has changed so I got back into the world of 50 yard benchrest. Come to find out,, no one is using Eley ammo anymore. Something to do with lack of consistency when they switched manufacturing plants..Right now I'm using Lapua Center X and I'm finding it pretty consistent. Im still getting that zinger once in a while. You know then one that flies off 3/4 of an inch ( always vertical stringing) about once every 20 shots. But in a 100 shot match, that's enough to drop you out of contention. Im willing to try Eley again, which one are you getting the best consistency out of?

The only one I tried was Target, the yellow box. I could get it locally when I tested it. Worked so well I didn't look at any of their other choices. CCI standard came the closest IRIC. Tried some other cheaper stuff I had around and it was terrible. Tried one of the Aquila offerings that was recommended by a buddy that uses it. Ely Target was hands down the best out of my rifle.

Anybody know if there is more adjustment in the trigger to decrease the pull? What is the typical reading when sent from the factory?

There is an Ace Hardware spring swap you can do for pennies. Never tried that one. I did a Yo Dave kit in one rifle and it was easy. Just had to play with spring and shims to get it good and safe. For me I ended up using a lighter spring with no shim. You can go heavier spring and use a shim too. Trial and error. I think that kit cost me about $2o.

I put a rifle basic kit in the other CZ. Think that was about $90. Easier to adjust trigger and probably a little better feel. Is it worth $70 more than the Yo Dave kit? Not sure about that. But it is a very good trigger.

From my experience.... the factory trigger is fairly crisp and just a bit over 3lbs. In the 452's I have owned and the 455 I own, IMO all they needed was the YoDave trigger spring replacement. I never needed to use the shims and they all seem to shoot about the same..... sporter barrel or bull barrel, 452 or 455, it doesn't seem to matter. With consistent ammo mine would shoot under 1/2" at 50 yards most of the time.

Like said above, rimfire's can be finicky with ammo...….. I've had good luck (most consistent) with most Match/Standard velocity ammo......CCI, SK, Aquila was OK, Wolf, Federal....

I bought a 452FS after learning about CZ Rimfire rifles on the Rimfire Central web forum. I ordered a YoDave trigger kit and an aperature sight and it’s been a great rifle. This was just before the 455s came out so I can’t compare them, much less the latest 457.
