Picked up a Mauser 1893 last night and have no clue about these guns as it is my first one. Has 7mm stamped in the barrel, Made in Berlin and seems to be a pretty clean weapon overall...great rifling and smooth action as well. Can anybody give me any info on these including what caliber 7mm ammo I should run through it?

7x57, I had one years ago, wish I had not sold it.
Not as strong as the later versions, as it only has 2 bolt lugs.
The later versions also use the bolt handle as a lug.

In the Spanish American War, the Spanish soldiers were armed primarily with German-made 1893s. It is possible that is a Spanish American War bringback.

7mm mauser also know as 7x57 Very nice and accurate rifles. I have a couple that I have not shot in years. You can buff that bolt and it will come out bright and shinny. Looks like the last version made for spain. The mag is flush with the stock.

Is the bolt square on the bottom of the face? Looks like it is in great condition. I have lusted for the 1895 carbine. Missed one as a 15 year old and haven't seen one since that was in decent condition.

7x57mm Mauser, original loads used a 175 gr Round Nose FMJ. Case diameter same as .30-06, .308 Win or .45 ACP. So, if you're going to reload for it 7x57 dies and any .473" shell holder.

Yes the bolt has a square bottom.

Just so happens I bought a 7mm Mauser recently too. But mine's an 1895 Chilean.

Any idea what mine may be worth and is there much of a difference in value if it was a Spanish American War bring back?

IF you can determine if it was used during the Spanish American War of 1898 then that would increase its value. Anytime you have documented proof tying it to an event/person then value is increased. I'm out of touch on market values for them at the moment.

Yours would not be a SAW bringback. It has the upgraded rear sight slider, which was done years after the SAW. Also, the "7mm" on the barrel is likely an importer stamp, which would mean it was in Spain's possession until at least the 1950s, when Interarms started importing Spanish surplus.

Still, a German made Model 1893 ought to be worth a few hundred bucks, anyway. Hard to say more without having the rifle in hand.

Surprisingly, SAW bringbacks do not bring the premium one would expect, for as scarce as they are. I've owned several over the years.
