This is coming from an Irish guy....

Is it just me, or do your families do this weird stuff too?

Last night, my wife is sneaking in our daughters room, who has built a trap to catch "the leprechaun" to leave little clues as if he's been here. Similar to the elf on the shelf crap.... Why is every holiday turning into a "hey kids, its a holiday, you get something!" Her school started this, telling them that the leprechaun comes in and messes up their rooms, etc. etc.... Its not easter, not the tooth fairy.... I dont get it. When I was a kid, we just put on a green shirt, or you got pinched.....That was St. patricks day when I was growing up. Maybe I didnt live?

That stuff ain’t happening here, I can see where some families with youngsters might have fun with it, I’m just not in that category.

The wife is cooking corn beef and cabbage at my house tonight. Suppose to be a tradition in her family I think?

Haven’t heard about the leprechaun deal though.

I’ll make an exception today and drink beer and Irish whiskey.

I’m gonna drink green beer and piss green all afternoon

………..not exactly sure, but I think I understand it more than what I used to. It's just something to do to interact with the kids, keep them busy and have a little fun. Probably not a good idea to spoil them, but at a certain age..... I kind of understand. Sometimes the interaction might be better to participate in an activity instead of getting something.

I didn't live either!

Better than being trashed all weekend and ignoring your kids like many do in the Boston area.

JM, have you ever been to Savannah for St. Patrick Days? We just had over 300,000 visitors this weekend. Maybe 400,000 downtown for the parade. It gets really crazy St. Patrick's weekend here. Next year it is on Monday and the crowds will not be as bad.

How many of you remember this b-side? Heck, how many of you are old enough to know what a b-side is?

Perfect day for an alien invasion. :D

My nod to the Irish holiday. I'm sure my Scottish Ancestors will forgive the momentary betrayal....

It's a damn good whisky though. Going to be a regular in the cabinet....

Green or pinched when I was a kid. Remember the leprechaun story though, and we did a whole bunch of random things in elementary school for the holiday, arts and crafts mostly.

Was best in my 20s, most the girls I ran with took the excuse to put on next to nothing and go out. My red beard, green bowler hat, and rambling drunkeness got me a long ways back then.

Just another day now :(

CZ, there was another square in Savannah that always looked like that after the parade. The made that square the headquarters for first responders. So everybody moved 2 squares up. I wish people learned to clean up after themselves. People used to spend the night in the squares to make sure they got the site on the street. Now, people cannot setup their tents until 6:00 AM. Wherever they tents are, that is where the mess is going to be.

The answer to that question is simple. $$$$$$$$$

My stepson made the comment last night that he didn’t get anything. Pissed me off but we had a little chat about holidays and gifts and I’m hoping he came away a little wiser.

I know it’s late, but I just saw it
