No but you can shoot a Pistol Caliber Carbine in IDPA now.Are there any carbine competitions in the area?
I'm definitely coming out for this one, but not sure I'm ready to actually do one...unless I can go last? I'm really slow, being new to moving with a loaded gun. LOL. I'm definitely up for one soon, though! (I don't even know the rules yet.)Cone out to the Clinton match Saturday. It has a lower turnout than the other matches and would be a great place to get started on your competitive shooting journey.
You will be amazed at how humbling it is and also at how much fun you will have while being humbled!I've only competed in spelling, but I'm willing to push my boundaries! LOL.
We let the new shooters go last so you get to see how it's done. I already got the 2-magazine pouch and extra mags and I'm just going to learn by watching, then I'll be good to go.
Negative ghost rider! Take your gear and SHOOT! You can go as slow as you need to and nobody cares. They will also enjoy passing along any knowledge they can. That is probably my greatest joy, helping new shooters! You will regret it if you don’t just go shoot it.I'm definitely coming out for this one, but not sure I'm ready to actually do one...unless I can go last? How do you start the course of fire with the carbines? I'll need to pick up a mag pouch/carrier.
Well, I'll get the 9mm cleaned and lubed and ready to go in case I get a wild hair, I guess.Negative ghost rider! Take your gear and SHOOT! You can go as slow as you need to and nobody cares. Yeah, the only time I was under a timer, I heard the tone, then moved and forgot it was there, so as not to try to rush. And I'm going to sign up now.....Here is a easy way to approach it.
As FF stated, " GO shoot the match".....
Make it your mission to shoot the match slowly and SAFELY without getting DQ'ed. If you can do that, You will have won yourself a big victory. Don't worry about the score or speed. Just go shoot the stages safely and you will be ok! The other shooters and the RO's will make sure you know what to do. If in doubt, ASK....

Yep, I start when I hear the timer, then it's not even in my mind.Good for You!!!!
The timer is nothing more than your "engage" signal... Nothing more...
Shooter ready?
Stand By.
"BEEP"
Go!
Keep it simple and you will be fine!
Yep, I start when I hear the timer, then it's not even in my mind.
I was told about someone almost shooting his foot because he was so focused on the timer. I'm going to be the opposite of that, I hope.
It should be an interesting day, for sure. Lol. Looking forward to a day of learning!
No one will care how slow you are. We’ll only care if you point a gun at us. He really does live in a great place and teaches me every time I go. You gotta make the trip down there! Trust me.....I haven't shot formal competition in many years. I was on a tear from 76 to about 90. Had some good results. More importantly I learned something Everytime I went. Truth be known I always seemed to learn more when I finished down than up. Go shooting. I get to go everyday, I live in a shooter's paradise. Come by and shoot with our folks. We are not now much match oriented but you will enjoy yourself. I promise.
Congrats in advance, and a Battery Oaks visit would be perfect...if she likes guns it would be cool, but even if not, it's a lovely place and she'd have fun! This year the wife and I celebrate our 30th anniversary. I told her I wanted to plan it around @BatteryOaksBilly meetup but she hasn't got back with me on that
Make it happen and the Dom is on me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This year the wife and I celebrate our 30th anniversary. I told her I wanted to plan it around @BatteryOaksBilly meetup but she hasn't got back with me on that
I must say, people do encourage me to do better and do more than I think I can....which is great!Millie, thanks for the kind remarks. You have improved 100 fold. You are better because you want to be. Another thing also, surround yourself with people that Want To See You Do Better. No Turd Lickers or Back Biters. Hurry back to see us .
When the trepidation wears off, you’ll need to find another hobby. I think I’m into my 4th year of shooting and shoot 4 weekends a month, most months. I feel butterflies every match and to be honest, that’s a big part of why I keep coming back.Ok.....with some trepidation, I'm going for it! I guess I can sign up from the link on the other thread?

A revolver must add a degree of difficulty to the proceedings! Lol. Good for you!Good stuff there ^^^! I’ve shot all my life and shot in a match for the first time in January. Never thought I’d be good enough, intimidated, etc. I shot that match and one other since and have taken a RSO course at my club and plan to shoot in more. What I’ve found is that I’ve gotten better, safer, learned a ton, and am not as bad as I thought. We don’t run matches as involved as the one in the video, but I’ve held my own against some good shooters being one of the very few that shoots a revolver.
