Tesla Model 3?

I don't but I'd really like to have eitheR a 3 or the new model y.

One of my employees has had a 3 S (performance model?) for about a week. He likes it so far. It was about 65K

Would you believe it if I told you I'm waiting I'm debating solar for the house first?
My partner Michael can give you a lot of info on that. He is heating, cooling and running 12,000 square feet and running a farm and another 1,200 square foot cabin completely on solar. He Is Off The Grid. He sells the power company power!!! Send him a PM he'll help any way he can.

Anyone have any experience with them?

I do not own one but have looking into them. They do not know how to build cars. The build quality is early 1990s Hyundai quality. Everything from body panels to interior fit. The concept is great but the execution is poor. They need to hire someone who actually knows how to make cars to take over production. Until they do that I wouldn't touch one.

I am most interested in a Kia Niro EV, with the new Soul EV as my second choice. Unlikely either of those will make it to NC though.

Not sure this is his long term plan. That outfit is rated Far above it's worth. Someday the math will catch up.

To me the only people who are buying them right now are people who want bragging rights and the air of Tesla ownership. I have no idea what "he" really wants to do with the car end of his business but if he does not fix the production end of the business he is going to get overtaken by his competitors. I personally think Volkswagen AG will be eating his lunch in 5 years.

A friend of mine who runs a great detailing shop in the area says the Tesla 3 owners are the worst. Most of the have stretched to get into the car and do not have the $$$ to properly protect is but what to protect their identity ride if you know what I mean.

I am guilty of trying to get the best of any "thing" I am in the market for BUT with God sitting on his throne in heaven listening to me, I swear I have never given a fat baby's fart for what Anybody thought about what I bought. I buy shit for ME. Folks trying to fit in by making the right purchase are to be pitied.

Not me. I value other opinions about my purchases. Yes sirree bob. The more money you invest in my purchase the higher value I place on your opinion. No money No value.

I tend to agree but at this point the Model 3 is a flawed best thing in the market because it has no competition. Once it does it will have to step up or it will be eclipsed.

That said cars are always border line vanity pieces. Even when you choose the best for the right reasons it does not hurt if it looks good. ;)

Model 3s cost less than a new minivan... I'm interested in telsas because I'm about to drop money on solar and potentially geothermal so it would be extremely nice to take advantage of the free go juice for the Tesla. Also, I'm a geek by trade and the electronics and features are pretty awesome.

I was talking to a tesla owner who was telling me how tesla sends her letters about driving too fast and using too much juice. I've never had a speeding ticket but that kind of monitoring really turned me off of them.

But it’s a shitty car. IMHO it’s value is going down at a much faster rate than any other car on the market. 5 maybe even 3 years from now there will be better electric cars.

They did a drop, then raised by 400 dollars.

Still a young company. But this car intrigued me. The auto pilot for highway cruising and well. No gas to put in it.
And no matter who comes along Tesla will have 8+ years of data from real time drivers ahead of them. In this day data is the new oil.

I'm watching closely. I don't think they are there yet, but I do love the software model of upgrades. They released an OTA upgrade a few weeks ago that unlocked 10 more HP. Stuff like that is one of the huge benefits imho. If I want to upgrade the gps in my wife's car I have to make an appointment, take time off work, pay the dealership a buttload of cash, and then I'll get a less up to date version of what's already in Tesla's.

Elon may be a bit crazy - but it's hard to argue an American company, building American cars, with cutting edge technology.

Look up twang'n'bangs video on his Tesla.

If they are around in 8 years to take advantage of it. Neat concept of cars but I talked to a couple diffrent customers that have built machines and done work for the company and will not work for them again and both are pretty easy to get along with. They said its all a big show and he is milking investors and they had to almost go to court to get paid for their work after having to jump threw hoops for demands. They were working on equipment for the home solar walls. They both said the new production lines for lastest model carbwere not even near done and he was out in the parking lot filming adds saying first ones had rolled off line when they had not even started a big portion of construction and the other production employees were all out in parking lot getting high. He is a marketing genious just not sure he is a good business person long term.

I don't understand how the cost of electricity is not considered when so many love the "no gas" part of these cars. How much $$ of electricity versus $$ for gas per 100 miles is actual figures? If you pay $100 a month for gas now and pay $0 for an electric car yet your electric bill goes up $100 a month, don't you lose part of the appeal of an electric car?

But can you go on a cross country trip in a Tesla? How long would it take to get from coast to coast in one?

One guy I know who works for the Facebook data plant in Forest City charged for free at work. Depending where you live and who you work for you get to charge for free.

It's highly unlikely that I'd drive coast to coast. I would drive it to see family out of the normal range where I'd hit the supercharger station for 15 mins. This would give me enough juice to get where I was going then fully charge it there.

Also, 95% of the time I'm charging it for free at work.

Most people average around 15 a month in an increase in electric.

The figures I seen, in 200,000 miles with a Tesla you pay around 7k in electric, in gas your looking at 14k.

Not figuring in oil changes.

Nope. I'd rather spend $65K on a Challenger Hellcat. I don't car if the 0-60 time is faster for the Tesla. I'm just not interested in Eco-jewelry.
Why not both? I spend my fair share on smiles per gallon. :)

There are some variables around how many kW of electricity it takes to travel 100 miles (because ambient temp and vehicle weight varies), but the US dept. of energy uses 34 kW as a rule of thumb. Electricity in NC is a little over $0.13 per kWh, so the cost per mile is about $0.045. 25 mpg at $2.50/gal. is $0.10/mile. EVs also don't need oil changes/spark plugs/air filters (other than cabin air), transmission fluid, etc. that make up normal maintenance.

Thanks guys!
It seems to be a 50% + savings to operate. Do you need to change/replace the batteries every 100k miles or do they last for years? That cost would offset the savings if they do run down.
Any other costs not associated with gas cars?
If you save a lot of money monthly in fuel and maintenance, that needs to be figured into the higher cost.

Batteries if properly maintained (not over charging and discharging) can last for 500k miles. They are dropping in price at 15% a year.

That 15k battery pack will be 5k soon.

They say, just rotate the tires every 6k miles and then something with the batter coolant at some other point.

I can't afford either anyway. The most expensive vehicle I ever owned was my 2010 Rubicon when you add in the ~$7K of modifications done.
Currently deciding what the buy when I get the new job. Seeing some nice deals on leftover 2018 Challenger R/T Shaker. But a 2019 Challenger Blacktop with V6 is a little better on gas and the wallet.
Also looking at Mazda MX5 convertible. A nice compromise to feed that part of me that wants a motorcycle but can't ride anymore. Tail bone issues.
I realize many of my peers at my income level think $60K is the minimum they would spend on a car. But to me, that is 2 cars worth.
