I have 5 ARs in my safe and one is a A2 which is longer than the other 4. The safe is split in half (right side - left side) and because the A2 is longer it has to lean one way or the other. The only way to keep the guns from rubbing against each other is to turn one of the carbine muzzle down.
Is there a problem storing one that way?

The self above the ARs all have handguns on them. I had to move my long guns to a secure storage area in the house. It has its own alarms zone on it and double studded. I am not comfortable storing the ARs and handguns in there. The other ARs I have the stocks collapsed.

I actually prefer muzzle down storage. It prevents any excess lube/solvent/whatever you stored it with in the barrel, from leaking down into the action over time. Also, it keeps the muzzle clear of dust and debris if your environment has that. Very dusty here. My farm rifle stays muzzle down with at loose piece of paper over the optic for dust. When I need it, I grab it by the grip, the paper falls away from the optic, charge and ready to go.

If you store your AR’s with the bolt “wet”, over time the lube will migrate into other parts of the rifle (depending on whether stored muzzle up/down)

Not that it’s a bad thing... I’d come home after a match a store my rifle, usually muzzle up. Later I’d come back to clean it and find the lube has migrated to the back of the upper receiver.

Alternatively answer, start splitting the upper, lower receivers. Fashion hooks under the lowest shelf for hanging parts. Stagger everything to fit together like the teeth of a zipper.

It took me a while to figure this out on my own. I'm not the brightest.

I now have six complete lowers, four stripped lowers, and three uppers on the top shelf. My other ARs are in the rifle area, along with three more uppers.

Hooks, eh? Hmm.
