This is my first attempt to try so you may have to help me along here. I really enjoyed the benchrest challenges we had in the past and I want to get it started up again. Rules will be to shoot the target using basic equipment, bi-pods, bags, towels, boxes, etc., just no sleds, or mechanical rests. This target is fun, shoot the hanging spider web until you hit it. If you hit it on first try, you get -1, if it takes 3 tries you get -3. Shooting spider is -10. Then shoot 1 shot at each of the bullseye for score. Total possible score of 49 points. Post pictures of setup and targets. Police yourself, all for fun!

To clarify...

Are we aiming at the red stripe for the first one? And trying to hit the spider?

And the corner web isn’t really part of the scoring, right? The goal would be to get 50 off the other 5 targets and hit the red stripe in the fewest number of shots?

Irons only or are scope/optics allowed? (If so, how do you level the playing field?)

If you’ve never participated, glance through the thread just below this for the last one (Christmas). We used to do it monthly. It’s all on the honor system and the “prize” is you pick the target for the next contest.

Optics are definitely allowed. The only thing you can’t have is a full mechanical rest. There’s no leveling of the field. Just shoot for fun (and hope nobody with a 17HMR plays this round) :D

Try not to hit the spider. Red stripe only for scoring, red stripe is negative score. You must hit red stripe to move on.

Iron sights or optics whichever you want to try. Trying to keep with .22 cal. Or maybe have 2 winners, 1 with .17 and 1 with .22?

Are we using best-edge scoring here? In other words, a bullet hole that breaks a line is given the higher value.

I would say yes. The target does specifically say Best Edge Scoring, and that is what it has usually been in the past on others.

@TNTmx9

You want to rename this topic title to include “June” and run it through the end of the month? Or June/July? Or Summer? Maybe we can keep these going this time.

BigWaylon, Do you think if we do it every other month, it would give a little more time for folks to get out and shoot it?

Definitely could. 60-day windows might help some.

@TNTmx9 - Glad you're starting this up again - I've missed it!

Quick question on the scoring ... Are these the correct target line values to use?

center bull = 10?
red circle = 9?
next circle = 8?
... etc?

If so, and maybe I just can't see your target well enough but it looks like you should have higher scores ... for example your top 7 looks like it broke the 8 circle and your 8 looks like it broke the 9 circle. Again, can't see it all super clear so just want to make sure I don't cheat on the scoring ... or at least know that I'm cheating if I do - LOL :D

Thanks - M

I have four printed out...son and I are heading to the range next Friday.

I think you’re missing it...

Red dot in center = 10
White ring = 9
Red ring = 8
White ring = 7
Etc, etc

ETA: (center red dot isn’t marked, but it should be 10)

Took a closer pic of one I have printed:

@BigWaylon - perfect! I was thinking that the red ring was a really big line separating the 8 ring and 9 ring rather than seeing it as a ring (the 8 ring) itself ... duh :oops:

Much thanks kind Sir!

@Zbizzle911 @Jeppo

Be prepared...this is on our to-do list for tomorrow. I just printed 24 targets. If you have a rifle to use, bring it. Otherwise you can use one of mine. :D

Picked up my first (only?) ARs this afternoon. :eek: But I’m not ready to shoot either yet. If it’ll serve, I’ll bring a 15/22.

If you think you can hit it with your 15-22 (not sure what optics/sights you have) go for it. ;)

The optics are a pair of extremely cool Ray-Bans. :cool:

What an absolute disaster. Gorgeous day, but crazy windy. Figured I’d try it anyway. Took a few shots at a different target to confirm zero, then started on the challenge target. Whaddya know, first shot resulted in this:

Followed up by what could’ve been accomplished with a .410 loaded with 5 buck pellets. :D

I’m going to call it a 17!! And the only reason I hit the 9 is because I was aiming at the 3:00 position of that target based on how the 2/0/1 attempts went. (I started bottom left, and shot the 6-2-0-1-9 in order). That’s what the wind was doing.

And because I’m all for full disclosure, here’s my 2nd attempt. Not even going to score it, because at a quick glance it’s a single digit total. :oops:

Damn @BigWaylon !!! I know you shoot a lot better then that. Wind blowing that target around that bad? I am going to try to shoot it Wed. if I get the chance. Hope it is not to windy.

It should be a 27 not 28 correct as I see a - 3 to hit the web or am I doing something wrong
Nope. What you think is a third hole, is actually “-2”.

...I had the same initial issue when I read your post then looked at his pic.

Hi guys. We need some more targets thrown up here, whether it is the highest or lowest, it is still loads of fun!! Thanks for getting this going again TNT. I took some time away for airgunning, but I enjoy my 22lr much more.

Below is my target and some pics from shooting today. What we have here is a CZ 455, Sightron 10-50, bipod, and rear bags. I had my VPT stock sent in and painted in red, white, blue so I was happy to be able to shoot it this 4th weekend. I shot SK RM. she really likes Eley Black, but I stuck with something cheaper. This batch of RM hasn’t been as good as most others I’ve tried, but it was consistent enough for a couple targets anyway.

I shot 8 targets. This was my 4th. Put up a 43 on both the 4th and 6th tries, so that looks like where I’ll stop. I need to clean her up, as she started spreading out a little on the last two and I shot a different test target after and confirmed it was cleaning time.

Great shooting Smok3y! I am glad to see some people shooting again. I have missed the online challenges and I think it is a great way to meet and chat with like minded folks! I hope everyone is enjoying this.

I really like shooting these too. I keep the old ones from last year in my bag. They awakened new shooting fun for me.

Looks like 43 is the top score so far, thanks to Smok3y! Still a few days to try and beat that great score!
