I had was a motorcycle accident last weekend, bike is totaled, I am fine. I'm giving up on motorcycles as my primary daily driver. I will be 50 end of August, I do fall and recover well, and in the last year people have become more crazy the usual in their cars.

So, I always liked the S-10/ ford ranger type trucks. I have been look at the chevy colorado as a daily driver. Looking at 2WD, v-6 models. Anybody have feed back good and bad?

Glad you are gtg after that. “Public” these days can’t be trusted due to a combo of i attention, stupidity, carelessness etc.

Old school rangers and S-10 size trucks are dead for now...

For a baseline I drive a 2011 ranger ex cab 4cyl manual 2wd. I will keep it until it dies:)

Due to work, I’ve driven a crew cab, diesel Colorado a lot. Man, that thing nice. I’ve typically used it to tow a dump trailer. The mini duramax is no joke for towing under 10k. Handles it like a boss. I try to avoid it as it makes me want to upgrade lol.

But the truck itself I have issues with... I am Leary of all the new tech. From the fact that the media unit/stereo is integrated all the way down to the door locks, to the throttle pedal not having a mechanical link to the engine. Modern vehicles concern me as to their longevity. I compare it to the fact that cell phones and such tech are outdated within a year, as such they go wonky within a couple years.... so we upgrade...

The bigger concern for me truly is the fit and finish... Espically considering what a new vehicle costs... The Colorado I speak of is the company owners personal truck. The sheet metal seems super thin. I’ve watched him drop a bag of concrete into the bed and it dented. The finished seams around the back of the bed are, well not finished. It’s easy to see the where the various body panels are overlapped and glued together (same on his sons silverado actually). The fuel filler door is plastic, as is the hinge. Has two tons of play and I can’t see how it won’t be broken off at some point.

I haven’t had any experience with the new Ranger but due to legislation and the fact that the cut/suv/truck market is back to printing money, I presume id really like it but it will have the same flaws/worries as to longevity...

I can keep going but I already wrote a novel... hope this was at least somewhat useful.

Without turning this into a Chevy vs whoever thread there is plenty of info you can search about reliability, resale value and a vehicle’s quality. I do think the Colorado gets good marks for its features and performance. If you like the shiny objects grab one. They look pretty nice.

Im looking at the diesel zr2 in the near future. my only concern, is with a family. wife and 2 kids, we will feel like we are back in the civic sedan that we currently drive. Im 6'4. so that doesnt help either. Ill just have to take them all on the test drive when the time comes. Im thinking for me, a bigger truck will be better.. But that 2.8 duramax is bad@ss!

The mini “max” truly is awesome

Friend has the Duramax Colorado and loves it.
He gets great MPGs on the hwy...like 25+
But for the price...his is crew cab...4wd... loaded... he spent as much or more than my full-size F150.
I just can't see spending the same or more on a smaller truck.
But each and everyone has different needs and wants.
Motor trend rated the Colorado the best "mid" size pickup. Kinda surprised me...cause I thought that went to the Tacoma....but they like the engines Chevy has better...and then with an option for diesel... well...
Good luck finding a truck and glad your ok from the accident.

My stepfather has had several of the Colorado trucks and he likes them. He doesn't have the Diesel, but its worth a look.

Don't get a 4cyl model, it's under powered. He had one for about 6 months and traded it.

We bought a Crew cab GMC Canyon 4wd with a Duramax in 2017. GREAT Truck! It’s a little tight getting in and out of the back seat but everything is a compromise in a small truck.

27.1 combined fuel mileage and 30mpg on the highway. It rides very nice. Definitely recommend.

Don't know enough to comment but I will say I do not like the GM 3.6 engines if that is one option for this truck. We have replaced two of them this year and have seen multiple timing chain/guide issues. All less than 100k miles.

When I was looking for my truck 2 years ago, it was between the Toyota Tacoma and the diesel Colorado
I did a lot of research and it came down to the fact that I didn't have a need to tow anything, at least not on a regular basis. The extra expense associated with the Colorado would have taken about 8 years for me to recoup.

Otherwise it came down to me just being picky, keyless entry and keyless start wasn't a option on the Colorado, I wanted a sunroof and heated seats and a couple of other things that were not available or would have put it outside of my price range. I went with my Tacoma and haven't had a issue and no regrets. I know of two people who have had the Colorados, both have gotten rid of them and gone to full size trucks.
