*****Spoiler/Snowflake Warning*****
The basic jist is that a demon, Crawly (later Crowley) and an angel Azirophale trade barbs and witticisms over several thousand years.
Then the antichrist is born, and the demons have spent milenia preparing.
Except the idiot satan worshiper who works at the hospital accidentally swaps that baby with a normal one....
Hilarity and hijinks ensue...
It really is a brilliant book, and mostly points out the silliness and absurdities of society.
It really was a LOT less disrespectful towards religion than it sounds.
I bring this up because I know several Christians who were appalled and offended by the source material.
I have found over the years that people who are the most offended by humor are the people who are clinging to an idea or idea of themselves that is so fragile any glance of depth into it will shatter the illusion they have created. That is not directed at religion as I have seen it in everything including southerners who get offended at southern jokes.
IMO, if you are religious you could read that book, laugh your ass off and actually come away more grounded in your faith. I mean the entire book ends with them discovering the ineffable plan.
I appreciate that. I’m not part of THE OFFENDED. Yet we will frequently chose to watch something else, turning shows off that are loaded with nudity, profanity and overall blasphemy. There’s too many options on Amazon & Netflix to research many of them.I agree wholeheartedly.
I just wanted to put that out there because, some people might miss out in something truly brilliant because they are offended upfront, and do zero research
Looks like May 31.any word on a release date?
He's in Broadchurch on Netflix too. Another very good series. The guy playing Crowley, the one who was in Dr Who is awesome, best part of the show
It was remarkably close to the book. It even had some points that weren't explained but illustrated. Such as it didn't matter what music was put into the Bently's stereo it became Queen moments later. They didn't do Pollution's bike right as it wasn't spewing smoke and oil everywhere it went.I finished watching the series last night. I was really impressed. I thought they did an excellent job of translating something that weird onto the screen.
It followed the book very closely except for a couple of changes and a couple of things left out (like the motorcycle gang the four horsemen pick up along the way. Was disappointed they let that out because the whole interchange of the one trying to pick his horseman name before they all die, save one, running into a pile of fish, was hysterical in the book).
Was worried it would fall flat like every single time they’ve tried to make hitchhikers guide movies.
