Went for a fiscal last week and got a call to go back for more tests ... he thought possible ulcer or other condition due to blood found in one of the first tests. Today they do an EDG and I have a quarter sized perforated ulcer. Nothing else BP was fine, cholesterol good, weight good, etc ... just a damn hole in my stomach. I haven’t had any pain or such and only the traces of blood found in another test. However now I’m really in pain ... no coffee, beer, scotch ... no spicy foods like Italian, Mexican or such ... no fatty meats especially BACON just chicken and not fried ... no tomato based foods so pastas, salsa, etc. Now basically I am suppose to go on a rabbit diet ... green stuff ... which the dietician said should include lots of raw leafy greens especially kale I ain’t a big fan of that stuff much less any salad unless it’s on say a hamburger.

I am sitting here wondering if or when I’m going to tell my wife ... I can just see her pulling out her damn juicer and I’m drinking cabbage juice or kale juice smoothies. I can just see her now going all DI on me with throwing out stuff, planning “healthy” meals and so on ... to a point where she’ll be doing surprise inspections for contraband. I can give up a lot but coffee, bacon, beer and seasonings ... WTF?

You need to take nutritional brewers yeast mix the powder with like orange juice and the pain will stop in 15-20 min- per my MIL she is a nutrionalist FYIW.

I know they say no pepper but cayennes will help heal those ulcers.

Hang in there, I'm sure a lot of folks here have been thru this and will be along to offer help to get you thru.

I feel for you! I'm a spicy/hot pepper lover and I don't know what I'd do in your shoes. On a good note though, the last time a doctor told me I had an ulcer, I found out I was pregnant.....NOT an ulcer. I don't trust doctors to this day! My husband takes Omeprazole (OTC) for his stomach issues. Hope you feel better soon!

Oof. Hate to hear it.

I have read that they recently discovered a lot of ulcers are gut bacteria-oriented? As in, many can be cured with antibiotics? I don't know if your doc addressed that and yours is the ol' fashioned kind, just lookin' for a way to get you back in bacon asap.

Hm. A creative chef might find a way to put bacon in a smoothie...

Look into papaya enzyme extract. I was having healing issues after an RNY and took Omeprazole. Had a hell of a time getting off it too. The bariatric nurse suggested instead. It works really well for stomach issues and puts a stop to it when i get that ulcer type feeling.

Raw honey is supposed to help with ulcers. Might hurt to give it a try.

I definitely ain’t prego ... if I am there is something way more off than just a hole in m stomach

I ain’t prego for sure ... and never had any pain ... I went for the yearly physical and the doc found it. I was 100% healthy until I went to the doctor

Yeah, he prescribed an antibiotic and another something inhibitor ... $4 for the antibiotic and $38 for the other.

I’ve used honey for a bunch of other stuff also ... from cuts and scrapes to homemade cough and throat soother. That will be a definite something to look into.

No BACON???!!!

That was my 2nd response after NO BEER?

Hang tough and do what you are supposed to do. Its only as bad as you want it to be.

No freakin’ coffee. I’ve been up since 6:00 but can’t get started right ... I thought bacon and beer were the worst.

A buddy got ulcers and wondered why. The doc said maybe it's the 5 giant mountain dew's you drink everyday.
Everybody I've known to go through ulcers had one thing that caused them. There may have been several foods/drinks that contributed, but it was always one thing that threw it into high gear.

Strawberry-banana smoothies instead of coffee. Delicious natural energy. Feel great, ready to go.
You might not go back to coffee.

Me thinks I may have an ulcer :( I’ll be calling the doc Mon morn.
The last 3 mornings I’ve awaken @ 5am in pain. Food makes it better for a bit.
No coffee or cayenne this morn, never woke up and it wasn’t any better.

I have 2. Caused my massive doses of antibiotics to treat MRSA
Cayenne pepper on about everything I eat and omeprazole

Over 5 years they are healing slowly

I took a omeprazole yesterday morn & had a burger & beer for lunch. The symptoms went away after eating, for now, & didn’t wake up in pain.
It looks like I’ll have to give up coffee :(
Yesterday was the first day I ever remember not having heartburn.

The dr said to take omeprazole in the morning. I take mine at bedtime and it works all the next day coffee used to give me fits until I started taking meds at night.

Are you taking prescription or otc?
Once in a while I have to take 2 otc ranitidine to supplement if I've had something really spicy.

OTC, I had some in the cabinet. I try to avoid it. A friend in Big Pharma let me know one of the concerns of dropping stomach acid levels is you can get sick much easier.
It was odd, the burger had a layer of hot sauteed jalepenos/onion, and the suds was an IPA and I felt great 1/2 hour later.
Hopefully it's not an ulcer, or maybe the PPI works great on me.

Prescription is 40mg Been on it over 5 years now. Not been any sicker than I have the last 39 years not tanking it.

How are you doing now?
I’m sticking to it about 95% of the time. Great thing is I have dropped about 15lbs and need to buy a new belt. I did finally complete the caffeine DT’s and my wife even gave up coffee but I do still get a craving when I smell it brewing in the break room. I go back mid August for another round of scat tests but aside from the nice little weight drop I don’t feel any different. The household meal plan has actually gotten overall healthier and it will be interesting to see just how much of the “smarter” eating we keep and how much we revert back to ... beer and bacon WILL be back as soon as I’m cleared but some of the diet will likely stick.
