Rubio's TAPS Act would encourage law enforcement to give EVERYONE a personal threat assessment (adults and children) and single out those they deem as future threats. That information would then be used as a kind of Precog substitute to “stop dangerous individuals before they can commit an act of violence.”
That is far more dangerous territory than I am comfortable with. Will the law enforcement agencies also look at their own (who have a very high rate of domestic violence)?

How many unarmed, defenseless people, will be shot and killed, before We realize being unarmed and defenseless, is not the answer?
I hate to say it, but I think red flag laws are going to be passed and signed into law, because of grungwehr39 points mentioned above. But, on the surface, it makes the gun community seem extreme to oppose them because "who in their right mind would not want a gun taken away from a crazed individual." I fear that the best we can hope for is to have protections built into these laws to protect the gun owner. Just some of my ideas:
1) Require that government provide or reimburse attorneys fees it eh confiscation is determined to be without cause. I think that since it is a civil procedure and not a criminal one, an attorney cannot be appointed by the court to represent the gun owner. This definitley infringes on the RTKBA of the low income citizen.
2) Some type of criminal and/or civil penalty for the person making the report that leads to confiscation if that report is found to be without merit and done with malice in mind (ie a wife in a divorce proceeding falsely reporting her husband.
3) Expidited proceedings in these cases so civil rights can be restored to those people whose weapons were confiscated in a timely manner.
Laws with these type of protections might exacerbate some of gurngwehr's points except #1 and #4. In regards to #1, cannot help you there, but for #4, maybe some sortof protection can be written into the law.
Lets discuss this, because I think these are coming and while we should resist them we need to provide our legislateurs with ways to make them more pallitable.
