Today is September 11th, a date which is certainly significant in most of our lives. For many of us, this morning brought into sharp focus the fact that these United States were under attack, that all leave was cancelled, and we were soon to march to war.

It's also the day my son was born, 14 years after the attacks that has altered the very world in which he and his older sister will grow up.

And though I couldn't possibly have realized it at 21 years old, single and without them - I have failed my children by focusing on the wrong enemies, fighting a bunch of illiterate goat f*$kers in Afghanistan and later Iraq while the real fight was here at home, in the halls of Congress, in conference rooms of executive agencies wielding immoral and unconstitutional power, in the Oval Office, and even among friends and family with whom we have and at times still break bread.

Yes, America was attacked on September 11th, 2001. And she has been attacked every day since by elected officials, by unelected bureaucrats, by large segments of We, the People. We have cheered as the Bill of Rights has been torn apart, as the Constitutional limits on the power of the State ignored because of "the terrorists."

Every year when today rolls around, it's the same bullshit.

"Never Forget."

"You said you would never forget."

"America, you have forgotten."

America has never recognized that real casualty on 9/11 was America itself - those almost 3000 souls who went to the Almighty that morning notwithstanding.

Within hours of the attacks, the erosions of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness began in earnest. Yes, we all came together, United, and were then led by the nose in the wrong directions, cheering wildly as the very foundation of the Republic was destroyed.

Annually we try and recapture that fleeting unity, thinking if we relive the trauma of that morning 18 years ago, things will miraculously get better.

But I want to take you to another September 11th morning - to the largest battle of the Revolutionary War that occurred on September 11, 1777.

Brandywine.

Before the battle, Reverend Joab Trout gathered with the troops on the night of September 10, 1777 and said the following prayer:

The entire sermon is too long to post, but is available in the New Hampshire State Archives. But this is what Americans were preparing to fight for on that 9/11:

“Soldiers and Countrymen: We have met this evening perhaps for the last time.

We have shared the toil of march, the peril of flight, and the dismay of the retreat; alike we have endured the cold and hunger, the contumely of the internal foe and the courage of foreign oppression. We have sat, night after night, beside the campfire; we have together heard the roll of the reveille which called us to duty, or the beat of the tattoo which gave the signal for the hardy sleep of the soldier with the earth for his bed and knapsack for his pillow.

And now, soldiers and brethren, we have met in the peaceful valley on the eve of battle while the sunlight is dying away behind yonder heights, the sunlight that, tomorrow morn, will glimmer on scenes of blood. We have met amid the whitening tents of our encampment, in time of terror and gloom, have gathered together, God grant it may not be the last time.

It is a solemn moment, Brethren, does not the voice of nature seem to echo the sympathies of the hour? The flag of our country droops heavily from yonder staff; the breeze has died away along the green plains of Chadd's Ford--the heights of the Brandywine arise gloomily beyond yonder stream--all nature pauses in solemn silence, on the eve of tomorrow.

***

Soldiers, I look around upon your familiar faces with a strange interest. Tomorrow morning we will go forth to battle, for I need not tell you that your unworthy minister will march with you, invoking God's aid in the fight--we will march forth to battle! Need I exhort you to fight the good fight, to fight for your homesteads, for your wives and children? I might urge you by galling memories of British wrongs; I might paint all this again in the vivid colors of the terrible reality, if I thought your courage needed such wild excitement. But I know you are strong in the might of the Lord. You will march forth to battle on the morrow with light hearts and determined spirits, though the duty of avenging the dead may rest heavy on your souls.

And in the hour of battle, when all around is lit by the lurid cannonade-glare, and the piercing musket-flash, when the wounded strew the ground, and the dead litter your path, then remember that God is with you; God the awful and infinite fights for you and will triumph Great Father, we bow before thee, we invoke thy blessing, we deprecate thy wrath, we thee return thanks for the past, we ask thy aid for the future; for we are in times of trouble, O Lord, and sore beset by foes, merciless and unpitying. The sword gleams over our land, the dust of the sod is dampened with the blood of our neighbors and friends. O God of mercy, we pray thy blessing upon the American arms. Make the man of our hearts strong in thy wisdom; bless, we beseech thee, with renewed life and strength, our hope and thy instrument, even George Washington. Shower thy counsels on the Honorable the Continental Congress. Visit the tents of our host, comfort the soldier in his wounds and afflictions; nerve him for the fight and prepare him for the hour of death. And in the hour of defeat, O God of hosts, do thou be our stay, and in the hour of triumph be thou our guide. Teach us to be merciful. Though the memory of galling wrongs be at our hearts knocking for admittance, that they may fill us with the desire of revenge, yet let us, O Lord, spare the vanquished, though they never spared us. In the hour of death do thou guide us to the abode prepared for the blest.
So shall we return thanks to thee through Christ our Redeemer. God prosper the cause. Amen.”

Chaplain Joab Trout did not survive the battle.

What would these men, this Host of Worthies think about our generation's 9/11, and the 18 years hence?

Would they say we have done well, we have done our duty as Free Men?

Or would they look at us with disdain, with contempt? Would they repent for all the pains they took to secure Liberty, only to have us so foolishly and impotently let it be taken from us by vain and aspiring men and women in the halls of power?

These are questions we must both individually and collectively answer if a nation so conceived will continue to endure, or be relegated to a footnote in human history.

Thank you for the exhortation @SPM
I fear/know they would display the latter.
Lets us pray to the Almighty that he have mercy upon us and restore us a nation like as we once was.

I'm just tired, man. Overjoyed with the birthday of my son. Dismayed at the version of America he has to live in.

And a lot of irritation that so many people put on a patriotic mask on 9/11. Nobody actually gives a f*$k, flying or otherwise, but boy it makes everyone feel special to post video and pictures of the Towers, Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania and rail against those "attacked us" while selling billions of dollars in weapons to the very government that financed the whole thing.

It just rankles me....and brings to mind a sign I saw in a Marine Corps MAC tent in Iraq in 2006:

"America is not at War. The Marine Corps, Navy, Army, and Air Force are at War. America is at the mall."

They've been at war since 1990

So, I completely embrace what you've said.

On 9/11 I was a detective and received a call from a person at a local bank. They told me about a "middle eastern guy" that was getting money wired to him often from Saudi Arabia. The guy was training to be a pilot at an airport in my jurisdiction. I immediately notified the FBI so that everyone was in the loop. The FBI named the investigation the PentBomb Investigation. The guy took off and when I executed a search warrant on his apartment I found a sleeping bag, a television and a refrigerator. These people are very motivated by the Quran and their religious beliefs. The investigation revealed that he was a back-up pilot for the attacks. When he was finally caught several weeks later in New York, he had several ID's and a bunch of different social security cards with different names and numbers. I also learned through this investigation, that the convenience stores, that were operated by these middle eastern folks were sending boxes of cash back home monthly to help fund terrorist and anti American activities abroad.

These are very troubling times we live in. We have people in the legislature now that hate America and Israel. Who voted them into office?

Russia said that we would have civil unrest here and an all out war at some point. They openly said this before 9/11. We have so many enemies at this point that America is in trouble. Now, we have enemies within. They are using our system against us, teaching our children untruths and we are expected to take it. I'm fortunate that my son is a boy and he knows that. He is like minded with me and we both know the truth of history, not what the schools tried to teach him. I had to straighten his teachers out a couple of times.

While in Iraq in 2005, the Iraqi Christians helped me understand the Quran and how if the Islamic folks can't convert you to their beliefs, it's okay to kill them. Period.

Our way of thinking has always been to send these troops overseas to fight the battle on "their" soil. Well, we are fighting the battle of our lives on our soil right now and don't even realize it.

There is a huge commercial construction site across from our building. I stood there with a black fellow and asked him to count the number of blacks he sees on that construction site. There aren't any. Remember back in the day, construction work was a career, and a good one, to many. He then argued with me about how a wall won't work and orange man bad. When your party can steals your jobs and you defend them...meh, it's probably useless to even talk to them and the younger folk.

Extraordinarily well-said, sir!

Discounting the younger folks is what is making the state able to weaponize them. I know this as one of younger members on here. Generation Z is currently the most conservative generation by this point in a long time. It's a backlash against the liberalism forced on them by many of the millenial and generation x parents. A whole generation now can't remember when we weren't at war. There is something wrong with that picture, and conservatives and Republicans get upset if you call them out on it.

Another millenial here. Based on my observations, it seems our generation is very much torn. Not a lot of moderates. And it feels like the liberals outnumber conservatives in our generation by a factor of 2, at least.

But it is true about Generation Z coming up. Based on what we've seen so far, they are quite likely the most conservative generation that the US has ever seen. I can only imagine that public schools and social media are working overtime to try and reverse that, but I think the Gen Z's have seen the man behind the curtain and want no part of it.

I personally suspect that a lot of the push for open borders right now is the liberal elite hoping that they can offset their votes by bringing in foreign socialists and giving them voting rights.

Why is our government protecting Saudi Arabia? The relatives of the murdered people from 9/11 deserve all of the reports. Our government is prohibiting them and the rest of us from seeing the reports. We should be able to go on the internet and read ALL of the law enforcement reports, all of the CIA reports, all of the FBI reports. We should demand it. Unfortunately, we are all comfortable in our recliners, reading and posting on our laptop computers. We are too comfortable. Freedom isn't free, we need to figure that out. As my friend posted above, we are providing billions of dollars in weapons to Saudi Arabia every year. The 9/11 survivors have been begging our government to release the reports and allow them to go after Saudi Arabia for the attack.

I'm not sure conservative is the right word, but they certainly are more skeptical than I've seen.

Maybe they are closer to that dirty word that conservatives and liberals alike hate. Libertarians.

This guy sums it up pretty well: http://raconteurreport.blogspot.com/2019/09/every-day-is-911-thats-exactly-problem.html

We live 9/11/2001 every day because of a refusal to do what needs to be done, because reasons.

When this happened allegedly a WW2 vet said to a younger millennial (?) we needed to bomb them into oblivion. The millennial replied, “you can’t bomb an ideology”. The vet said, bullspit. We did it to the Germans and Japanese until they lost the will to fight.

hy is our government protecting Saudi Arabia?
This was a thorn in my side for a long time....follow the money..
we are providing billions of dollars in weapons to Saudi Arabia every year.
Those contracts are Some of the "follow the money" theory. They are making Millionaires out of the decision makers.

As a fellow Marine vet I get your frustration with the lack of concern most people have for 9/11... the sad part is that its not really their fault, our Nation has been deliberately distracted in increasing amounts from matters of importance.

I was in Iraq in 04 and 05. To this day I still don't understand how the people of our nation were so mislead that we invaded a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, and 18 years later we are still in Afghanistan, the longest and most expensive war in our nations history......

Im sure you were taught about MajGen Smedly Butler and his 2 Medals of Honor in bootcamp. I wonder if you've ever read his book, 'War is a Racket'?

maybe one day we'll know why building 7 fell, and why there were dancing Israelis "documenting the event" from rooftops in NJ.

I'm a Sailor, not a Marine, but I did hang out with more than a few in Iraq in '06.

That said, I do know about Gen Butler, and have read portions of War is a Racket.

So, I have no idea who that is. But, I used to go to the gym with Petraeuus and another guy before him, I think his first name was George (Casey?), lol. We would meet at Camp Victory and work out daily. Petreauaus was a lover of the camera and news media. The General before him, not so much. I have photos with both guys for my scrap book. LOL.

I'm just going to say that I was there with the United States Department of Justice, the FBI. I was so fortunate. I was not under DOD and I did what I wanted to. I was not under General Order #1 and used to have parties for my military friends. It was amazing. We had our own base beside of the Seal Team and the CIA at the BIAP. It was awesome. We were supported by folks and we would have parties for the military guys as necessary. When I first got there I was at the Embassy and it was great, but being out in the field was the best move ever. Was it dangerous? Absolutely. Hard living, but it was some of the best times of my life.

Fixed it for ya, used to spend my days off down there around the same time. Minus a few amenities that place was a country club. Nice DFACs, nice gyms, Greenbeans, Cigar Club at the JVB, and fishing. I'd sometimes forget where I actually was, had some good times there as well.
