Favorite Restaurants of CFF members--Post Here

My favorite restaurant in NC is Josephines in Kitty Hawk, NC. We go there at least once per year when duck hunting. Amazing Italian food, and the best Tiramisu ive ever had.

Not really my favorite but we went to Outback in Rocky Mount yesterday and I tried something called Bacon Burboun Salmon. It was amazing. Will for sure be having the dish again.

Anybody here tried Cowboy in Cornelius? Opened in March I think. Owned by the guy that owns 131 Main (and Tenders, which became PDQ).

Beef brisket (lean, fatty, or mixed), chicken, steaks...as baskets, platters or even some tacos. Fries, Mac & cheese, baked beans, Brunswick stew, collard greens, and some other options as sides.

We went recently for my birthday. I got a filet (served with horseradish) and wife got brisket (at my request) so we could share. Son got a 1/2 chicken. Dad got brisket tacos and his wife got a salad of some kind. Also grabbed a slice of apple pie and some banana pudding to share.

Place advertises as no freezers, always fresh. Weird part was you ordered at the counter and then chose a table. Not weird for most food...but it was the first time I've had a filet that way. Everything we tried was pretty dang good. Wasn't a big fan of the beans, but that was about it. Snagged one pic of my plate:

Went back a couple weeks ago for my birthday. Tried the brisket sandwich this time. Yum!

Don't know if they've been mentioned here yet or not, but we've got a couple around here that we really like.

Full Moon Oyster Bar in Jamestown. Great oysters (the Quarter Moons will make your eyes bleed if yer not ready for the heat), great service & healthy pours at the bar. It's a hike for us, but we like it a lot.

Fiesta Grill in Chapel Hill (White Cross actually, west of Carrboro on NC 54). Best authentic Mexican joint I've ever eaten at. A former Mexican buddy (didn't come to the US till he was 13) from SoCal said it was the best food he's had outside of Mexico. Small place with maybe 8 tables. On a typical summer Saturday evening, the wait time is right at 2 beers. Awesome salsa verde, tacos to die for. Been goin' there so long that when I walk in, the owner and/or his wife will say, "Hey Carlito! How many?," as they're grabbing me a Negro Modelo from the cooler. No liquor license, but the beer is cold & the food is incredible.

If you like your Mexican a little more gringo, La Fiesta in Burlington at Alamance Rd. & Church St. is also damned good. I usually get the Burros ala Roquetta. Everything tender & perfectly cooked, seasoned just right. Their salsa verde is out of this world good we always buy a big cup of it to bring home. Margaritas are pretty decent as well.

Dickey-Do's BBQ in Haw River (just off N. Church St, across from Haw River Drug). We like their family pack with a pound of Q, 2 smoked half chickens with 4 medium sides, 4 buns & 4 'nanner puddin's. Their Q's respectable (haven't tried their brisket or ribs yet), the smoked chicken is incredible & they're not stingy with the sides or desserts. Their smoked, bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers are slap yer mama good, but I don't see them on the menu any more. Used to be if you wanted any, you needed to call the prior & order them & totally worth it.

Thanks for mentioning Full Moon. Everybody raves about it and it’s not far from me at all. Gonna have’ta give it a try.

@Crazy Carl mentioned a former Mexican buddy (not sure if he's a former Mexican or former buddy) talking about authentic eats. I had the same experience with a coworker from one of our factories in Irapuato.

He mentioned as far as being as close to what he would eat in Mexico, Taco Loko in Rockingham, NC was it, for our small area.

As far as Full Moon is concerned, I do like their potato appetizers, but they really have been hit or miss on the entrees. I'm speaking of the one in southern pines.

Former buddy. Only Full Moon we've been to is the Jamestown location, haven't tried any of the others yet.

Use to go to the Black Pelican a lot. Got sick of dealing with the traffic though. It's been probably 4 years since my wife and I have been.

Shrimp and grits there are great.
I mean really great.

Forgot about this one until I was going through and deleting pics. Morgan Street Food Hall in Raleigh. Evidently the name of the place was Cowbar. I think it was called a quad-something. Yum!

Quad Stack. Found the menu. :p

What was required afterwards might been a quadruple...

Sweet Potatoes in Winston Salem
Had their fried chicken last week and I was blown away by how good it was
Also recommend their mashed sweet potatoes, not their regular mashed potatoes though

I had 2 arteries close up just looking at the pic, but man it sure looks good!
I’d never been to the Foodhall. I’m in Charlotte but my brother is in Raleigh. When I saw it on the menu I had to give it a shot. The seating arrangement is like a food court, but big picnic style tables. So the random group of four sitting next to me just kind of looked over in awe (or maybe disgust) and asked if I actually thought I could eat it. :D

Not sure I’d order it again, but it was guuuuuud.

There's a place close to us called Salt Water Grille https://www.thesaltwatergrille.com/ . Over the years there have been several different types of restaurants in this building. @BatteryOaksBilly said that he and RS had gone there a couple of times lately and talked about how wonderful it was. Well, since my spouse is in Texas visiting her sister and RS was away for a couple of days, Billy and I met there for supper Tuesday after I got out of work.
Billy said he and RS had gotten the fish bites from the appetizer menu and an order of onion rings. Billy ordered the bites and rings and I said I'd have the same thing. Billy told me not to order the onion rings that there would be plenty for both of us with just his order. Actually, we could have shared the order of fish bites, too. Lots of food and it was great, we had food left over. My wife loves fish and when she gets back I'll be taking her there.

Made my second visit to The Smoke Pit (in Concord) today. Dragon Sliders (pulled pork, dragon sauce, pickles) and sweet tater fries. Didn’t get a pic, but also had the strawberry/peach cobbler...which came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a separate bowl. It’s been a rough afternoon in the office. :D

San Luis very good
Had a great quesadilla there, the best Ive ever had (which, to be fair, I dont order them too often).

Had The Big Hot Pastrami sammich at Mountain Deli in Hendersonville yesterday.
I'll be going back there sometime. Pretty danged good pastrami sammich.

Moji Coffee, Trade St downtown WS
Dont know if I put that one here before or not, but it's a great little shop with GREAT principle behind it.
Non-profit to raise funds for people with Downs, autism etc - most staff have these disabilities.

OH, and a new place I went to this past Saturday
Ms. Oras - Id say soulfood, but that might not be right.
They have, really, only a few things on their menu - Fried chicken, Fried fish, a few (3 on Saturday) sides)
They pan fry the chicken and fish when you order and it is GOOD!

Had lunch at Mission Barbecue in Wilmington with the family yesterday while moving one of my boys in for school. It’s not the first time I’ve eaten there and it’s always good, but I’ve never been there at high noon when everything stops. They play the national anthem, and everyone, and I do mean everyone, cooks and staff included, stop and stand for the whole anthem. Awesome.

If forced to eat seafood I will but for the most part my travels out to eat are places that serve homestyle cooking followed by all-the-way hamburgers. There are too many places that serve good hamburgers but the homestyle places are becoming fewer. Best places in my area are the Classic in Denton(it burned down a few years ago and just reopened a few weeks ago at a small mall just out of town) and Battle Branch in the Huntsville community which is north of Farmington which is north of I-40 between Mocksville and Clemmons. Both are worth the ride, jmho.

Today at BoJ I tried the Cajun Filet WITH PIMENTO CHEESE....YES!!!!!!!

New restaurant in High Point at The Palladium....... Coast is the name. I just had some incredible Chilean Sea Bass topped with voodoo butter and a side of low country brussel sprouts. Very good.

Contrary to what the picture shows below, it was quite crowded when we arrived for a late lunch.

Can't say enough great words about Johnny Rogers BBQ & Burgers in Concord. It's on Hwy 29, just north of the NASCAR track by about 1 mile. The man who owns it also works in the kitchen 4-5 days/week and they are truly a local business.
Make sure you get the sweet potato fries with the honey mustard dipping sauce or the HAND-DIPPED & BATTERED onion rings. If you ever ate at Herlockers in Charlotte before they closed, then you'll know where Johnny Rogers got the inspiration for their onion rings!

I was there on a Sat night a couple months ago when school was in, the food was great, the sights were even better. :D

Conosur, a latin fusion place in Mills River. A mixture of Peruvian and Chilean classic dishes with a twist. I had some fantastic empanadas and plantains there today, looking forward to going back for some Peruvian rotisserie chicken. Check it out if you make it to the mountains.

Don Betos Tacos in Clayton.

The best.

You don't have to speak Spanish here, but it could help. The real thing.

Tried a chain place Friday night - Viva.
They have 2 in GSO, it's Peruvian chicken
DANG it was good!
I got the 'Great' sandwich
Tried a bite of my friends rice bowl
both really tasty
