That is awesome, but the muzzle flash is the nature of the beast...makes other people who crowd you at the range back off....View attachment 2841 My son was saving for a rifle. So when a bunch of Mosin Nagant rifles were found in a warehouse somewhere in Europe (again), we purchased a carbine cheap. Being a "you get what you pay for type", I decided to let him learn a lesson buying a $180 military rifle. It came packed, no, caked is a better word, in cosmoline. The mfg date was 1945 and the cosmoline was original also. Hours learning to disassemble, clean, oil, and reassemble with a hair dyer gently melting the compline off and a bag of rags later he was ready for the range. "Did you do the bore again?" answer "No". "Let me take a look... you should have, but it's clear, go for it." Don't know if it was the surplus ammo or the cosmoline, but the result was spectacular. Still has an incredible muzzle flash, but not quite this bad. So many lessons to learn, but buying junk will not be learned this time. It is actually surprisingly accurate (with a little work) and he loves it. Maybe I can get the trigger pull below 15 lbs. Reloading 7.62 x 54R is next as I can't stand that muzzle flash.
Maybe the Student teaches the Master.
He shot a box of 20. Amazing how excitement can dampen pain. It is not so good at erasing the mark that it leaves though.
Since then he has tamed it down to 10-12 rounds per outing.
To Punisher's point however, he does take great pleasure in quietly setting up on a bench when someone is at the other end of the range playing with an AR and then "unleashing the beast". It does garner attention when it goes "bang".
All in all, hard to beat. Low cost and a ton of fun.
HIVIZ makes a slip on recoil pad that fits the Mosin stock just perfectly, just measure your stock and buy the one that fits. https://www.midwayusa.com/s?targetL...elocity%7C1&Ntpc=1&Ntpr=1&userItemsPerPage=48
it is isn't it??I thought it was a requirement to own a minimum of one Mosin to have a man card.
It's never to late to own a mosin 3 years ago I was wanting 1 now I've got somewhere under 15Those who are late do not get fruit cup.
I would love to own one or more. But the market is too confusing and prices are too high to hope I get lucky. I find it challenging to try to educate myself on a gun that I do not own.
Sometimes I have to accept that some things just weren't meant to be.
I can appreciate that,I'm 58 an steel on bone from those HB surplus rds. leaves a mark that last awhile. Thanks Reloader, but he is 14 and I am hoping to teach him that love hurts before he has his first girl friend. That and, "all things in moderation." So far, so good.
I just started my grandson on an M38 showed him the correct way to position the gun where the recoil wouldn't bother him and he is hooked sooo bad. reloader maybe you're not doing something right if its leaving a mark on you,I mean I know they got recoil but shouldn't leave a mark unless your not pulling it up snug. Only thing I think ever left any kind of marks on me was a 12 gauge with a box of 3 in magnums and that was cause I was shooting quick and didn't keep a tight hold. I know a lot will say bull but I've shot high powered guns since I was littler than them and sure got scope cuts and black eyes from being positioned wrong or not having a good grip on gun but never just straight out had any leave a mark when held right.I can appreciate that,I'm 58 an steel on bone from those HB surplus rds. leaves a mark that last awhile.

Heres my only one. Was built in 1942 hex receiver. Was in sad shape when I bought it. The first 6" had a slot cut into the rifling from the steel cleaning rod, badly cracked stock, and almost no finish. I had the barrel cut to 20" threaded , recrowned and a brake installed. Sitting in a archangel stock with a Timmy trigger set to 2lbs. Had the a new bolt handle welded on. Just had a set of Remington iron sights installed as the scope mount wouldn't stay put no matter what. Custom paint by me. I know some of yal won't like it but the rifle was nothing special and couldn't have been used in the shape she was in. Now she shoots pretty good and is alot of fun. Will be my deer rifle this coming winter.
