Deer season 2019

Saw this one wander out with about 15 mins left for time. I thought it was a large doe so waited for it to wander where I could drop it immediately since I doubted I'd be able to find it in the dark. DRT with 4 mins to spare. I walk over and see the antlers. Bummed I used a buck tag on such a little guy. I have a personal policy to not shoot anything smaller than 7. At least they all taste the same.

@Triggernosis

I'm trying to hunt here. Would you mind shutting off this rain for a couple of hours? Whatcha say, buddy?

I would say PM for location, but you're probably already locked on to my signal.

It's going to take me about 8 hrs or so to shut the rain off today - everyone is asking for help and I'm a bit busy right now.

During a late afternoon hunt yesterday the Nature Boy set a world record for the largest buck to ever be killed by a flying knee drop. The iconic wrestler took down the 16 point whitetail from the top branch of the tree. The buck was lured while following a doe that had heard Flair's "WOOOOO" calls. It is no surprise that even deer cannot resist the sweet temptation that is Ric Flair.

So about 4:30 I get a text from my son. He was in a stand on the other end of a long field. Probably 700 yards from me. He tells me he sees a doe. I said "Choot It" ***20 second delay*** ***POP***. He then tells me she dropped in her tracks.

I fetched the mule and then fetched the kid and deer. It was an impressive shot for a 14 year old. 100 yards and perfectly placed. .300 BLK 110 gr Barnes VorTX did its job again.

She's butchered and in the cooler. I'll vaccuum seal her in a couple or three days.

Barnes got it right with this load...... they just flat out work. I have a safe full of rifles and my 10.5" blackout has been with me every time I've been in the stand this year.

Every deer we've shot with it except one has been like someone flipped a switch. Just dirtnapped. And the one that didn't made two spasming bounds into a Pete Rose slide.

I harvested a smaller 6 point yesterday morning. Will post pics when I get home Saturday.

Shot was a little over 100 yards in the neck. Spine severed and down immediately. Minimal meat loss. Heading back to finish butchering and packing away meat in the freezer.

Haven't seen any others where we hunt in VA all week.

10.5"? Dang that's short. What's the muzzle velocity on that round?
Do you have it suppressed?

It's on a pistol lower, no suppressor just a kak flash can...... haven't shot it over a chrono but the blackout is supposed to do well with short barrels, I think it only loses about 150fps over the 16". I don't think the deer can tell the difference. :D

So, one of the enjoyable parts of my annual Michigan trip is driving back to Saginaw and admiring the deer folks shot. Up there, it’s normal to simply toss your deer on the top of your vehicle, tie it down and drive home.

Down here, I’d love to do it and piss off some local snowflakes.

The GSR needed some love today....

neck shots for the win! nice 8 pointer man

Thanks!

I usually go for the boiler room, but I thought, why not? He was facing me with a slight angling to my left, head high. I said to myself, "Self? Where you reckon that critter's neck bone is?" And all I could think about was that line from that Eddie Murphy movie. "You gon eat that cone bread?" BAM! And he dropped.

Well, honestly, it was more like POOF! Since I'm running 950fps 194gr Lehigh Defense through an 8.5" 300blk and Nitro 30 suppressor. But you get the idea.

LMAO! best hunting bs I have heard all week ;) But seriously........I need a can for my blackout.

For some reason, we are not seeing any deer on my cousins farm this year, but yesterday 5 tom turkeys walked across the field.

Took a 10 pointer about 5 this afternoon. Not the widest or the tallest rack you will see, but he was quite cooperative as he came out well before dark and did not run but about 30 yards. He put his head down and drove with his hind legs like he was trying to plow a furrow.

Got this one this morning (that's a size 14 shoe)........ I think I'm gonna make sausage out of him.

If you skin him you can't tell it's not a squirrel. When I was a young buck we took em & sold them in The Kingdom till they got wise & wouldn't buy squirrels already skinned.

I just killed my first deer in 22 years! It's also my first deer since moving to NC.

I shot it off the dam of the pond in my back yard with a .300blk AR pistol. It was the easiest hunt of my life. Sixty yard shot, open sights, from my back porch.

I wasn't even wearing a jacket...
