Went out with some buddies that do this as a serious hobby, with thermal and really nice gadgets. They have killed over 100 coyotes this year and compete regularly. So I put together a Grendel in the AR platform, sourced an ATN X-sight, illuminator, and got after it last night. It was really bright, and they said that was horrible weather to try to kill coyotes in. This nice male came in on me at 125 yards, and he really didn't have a chance when he stopped. Straight on shot, right in the chest, rolled him backwards... 36 lbs. My buddy said probably a 2yr old.
I was lent a Pulsar Axion to scan with. That is the game changer. Soon as I saw him, dropped the thermal (on lanyard), got on the rifle, saw eyes and squeezed it off in his chest. Done.
Lots of fun.
