IAB, I've handled a couple. Some sharp edges but they shoot well. You'll enjoy it!
If it's true to the original style make sure you half cock before you open the breach. The firing pin is one piece and will drag across the primer/shell face. A few of those with the pin being brittle, it will snap the pin off. Find a source and get a couple extras. (Experience talking)
The .45-70 ... from puff loads for fun to bruiser Bison loads ... a damn versatile round and that piece of artillery will allow you to fire any of them! Nice pickup!
At the moment, all I have is four boxes of HSM's Cowboy load
I've actually been looking at those too. Plenty of power for deer hunting.
Everytime I get to Garner I pick up a box of two from Cabelas
Just a heads up... MidwayUSA is $5.00 a box cheaper and free shipping on $49. Think I might order 5 boxes.
Damn, thanks, that's good to know
Well, the 45-70 page I'm a member of on FB, isn't impressed, apparently the manufacturing quality was a bit hit or miss
First, it's yours. Shoot it and have fun. Wait till you meet the Sharps Snobs! You can buy a lot of ammo for the difference in $ they paid.

Thanks for the heads up, where would I get spare parts for this work of art?
Great looking rifle. I always wanted one like that.
Do you reload?
I've done a little reloading, but I do have access to all the tools I need for 45-70, my Dad used to roll his own for a Trapdoor carbine
