I've been mulling over some basic body armour lately for a number of reasons and one of the carriers I've been looking at is the Grey Ghost Gear Minimalist

https://greyghostgear.com/collections/plate-carriers/products/minimalist-plate-carrier

But...... I'm a big dude (but shrinking daily, I can fit comfortably in a 52" jeans, down from a 56-58" 6 weeks ago) and wasn't sure it would be a comfy fit. So I wrote them an email with some questions and got a reply really quite fast. It was simply a request to call. So I did. The lady who answered explained she wanted to know what size plates I had since they had a guy my size on staff who used the same carrier but had try a couple of sizes/styles of plates to be really comfy. When I explained I didn't have plates yet she asked for a mailing address.

I asked why. They are going to ship me a Minimalist with a return label in the box so I can see if it fits/suits me. If it doesn't, no worries send it on back. If it does and I want to keep it, call back and pay for it. I didn't ask for this, they offered unprompted. Didn't even ask me to pay shipping.

Now - that- is going above and beyond to win a customer.

Just wanted to put this out there since we usually have tales of woe to tell and this just blew me away.

You and I are in a similar situation. I will be interested to see if you like it. I have been looking Carrier and plates also.

I'll post update etc in this thread. I'm a total newb when it comes to body armour other than knowing I need nipple to nipple and up as high as the first squishy spot above the chest.

Well...I have also been contemplating buying plates...mainly because of y’all expect me to lead this boogaloo ima need some...

With a customer service like that, they will certainly be my first look.

They shipped today, delivery Monday. That's faster than most companies I've already given money to.

Grey Ghost makes some good gear. I've got their Lightweight Assault pack. Great little bag. Had another one of their bags from when they first started, but sold it.

Been waiting for their padded PVS-14 pouches to be back in stock, so I can get em for guys (the issue PVS-14 bags are junk).

Never had to use their customer service. Probably because they make a quality product that won't fall apart.

Well the package arrived. It's weird this thing feels light and flexible but not flimsy. It's incredibly simple but well thought out.

I just don't think it's big enough for my fat ass lol. I mean it does sort of cover the vitals but I'm not sure all the way. It would definitely be easy to conceal.

Which is more than you can say for all that butter and manboob peeking around the nylon.

Gonna need a bigger vest. :D

You’ve seen our targets in the show us your targets thread right? We’ll never hit that vest. Probably take out both your shoulders and belly button though.

I haven't, don't think I've been in that thread.

What size plate is that carrier sized to? Those plate carriers are going to be similar sizes in the size range. Size large will be similar across the manufacturers. Size medium will be the same. Etc.
You're gonna need a SAPI XL or commercial 11"x14" plate.

If you want full soft armor coverage you'll have to be measured and compare to the specific manufacturers sizes. They all vary drastically.

I was R&D in armor design and testing with Diamondback Tactical for a bit. Have one model that I designed NIJ.06 listed.

Might be easier to find someone to do me a Ned Kelly set in AR500.

Well just for giggles I'm talking to their custom shop. Almost certainly out of my budget but worth an email or two to make sure.

Don't forget you are starting with an advantage

There are some great target pics in there.

And even I might be able to hit that vest!
But yeah, if I revert back to my usual low left, you might have a few holes in ya! And these days I'm shooting the .45 a LOT! lol.
