OK, I must admit that I have never made a cocktail with bitters. What the hell are bitters and who uses them? Per GOOGLE you can get them in the grocery store with the cocktail items.
Someone please education me!

Bitters are extracts used to enhance the flavor profile of a drink, or balance opposing flavors - like sweet and sour. They’re kinda like the spice rack of your liquor cabinet. The Manhattan and Old Fashioned are two of the more common drinks made with bitters - Angostura typically. The best thing to do is just pick some up and start making drinks to find what you like in what proportions.

I make my Old Fashioned heavy on the bitters. I really enjoy the flavor they add.

Here is what you're looking for. A bottle goes a long way. I too enjoy a heavily bittered old fashioned. Made with rye of course.

Try honey instead of sugar, takes a little extra mixing.

I don't much care for honey. I've tried it.

I use a sugar cube or two. Muddled in with the bitters, an orange rind and a dash of water. Then fill the glass with ice and rye.
