Favorite Breweries

I love the Hop Drop! I’m actually not far from you down in Monroe. I like to go to Sycamore on a Friday every once in a while on a cool night in the spring/fall or something.

There are a few that are a bit more local, but my favorite local spot is Southern Range. They make a barrel aged Cookie Doh stout that is absolutely amazing! Quite a few IPAs to try while you’re there too.

I’d love to get up to the mountains and try AMB, Sierra Nevada, and Wicked Weed is definitely at the top of the list.

The barrel aged cookie doh stout is a MUST TRY if you’re in the area. Hell, it’s worth a little trip. I picked up a 4-pack of cans for my dad and I on Christmas Eve and they had the regular Cookie Doh stout on tap, not the barrel aged. It was also good.

While not Asheville, Charlotte has a nice growing Brewery scene. NoDa, Sycamore and OMB are probably the most famous but I like Birdsong (originally located next to NoDa but moved to the Belmont section of Davidson St.). I have heard good things about Blue Blaze (especially their ESB) but it's in a BAD location over near the Tanktown section of West Charlotte. No thanks.
Cabarrus in Concord is my current local favorite, with the 1792 ESB Nitro being my favorite. They have a food truck Friday, do a decent Marzen during Octoberfest, and have a good vibe going. High Branch is across the beer garden if you are into IPAs which I am not. Southern Strand just opened in Concord over near the Courthouse and we were at the grand opening but everything there taste weak and watery to me. Decent location but the lack parking isn't going to help draw the crowd they want.

Wife and I still have about $200 left in Credit from winning Octoberfest contests at OMB - gonna go cash it in after our January whole 30 diet lol. OMB is probably the most influential small brewery in the state, and their Bauern Bock is excellent!

We’ve been to Wiseman Brewing in Winston a few times recently. Damn good beers sometimes live music usually a food truck out front.

New one in Monroe called Southern Range. I had one of their beers, a Neopolitan Stout, and it was really good so we are planning a trip there when the weather warms up.

Always great beer and an awesome vibe there... They recently did a tap takeover at Lowe's Foods in Knightdale of all places. Ton of people and a good time!
