This happened just up the street from my house about 3/4 mile as the crow flies. 911 callers were lighting up the boards about this truck this morning well before it got to the Sandy Ridge/Kendale intersection. One of the callers said she saw it going northbound on I-73 towards I-40. Two other callers had no idea of any sense of direction when calling it in to 911.

It appears that the truck could have been headed to Skeet Club Road where there is a widening project going on or maybe numerous construction sites on or near Sandy Ridge or Bunker Hill Rd.

Bad morning for all involved.

The truck came to rest on Kendale Rd. at Flynt Rd. about 75 yards from Sandy Ridge Rd.

The one caller who knew it was headed northbound on I-73 first saw the truck driving erratically at the Old Randleman Rd. exit on I-73. That means that truck traveled quite a ways before crashing and killing someone. It would have gotten off of I-40 at the Sandy Ridge Rd. exit and would have hit two lights right there at the bridge, one at the exit ramp, and one at the other side of the bridge crossing over I-40. It's a wonder it didn't crash before then based on the calls and the distance traveled.

Airgas is off Sandy Ridge? May have been a medical situation with a driver?
Sad.

Sad.

Yes. I think it was an Airgas truck from Colfax. It may have been headed back to Triad Dr. right there at Sandy Ridge. That would have meant the driver was completely disoriented and turned left instead of right onto Sandy Ridge.

One of the 911 callers said it looked like the driver maybe was experiencing a medical problem.

I guess time will tell.

I finally figured out how it ended up on Kendale. The Airgas tractor had already passed the Kendale intersection going southbound on Sandy Ridge when it hit an SUV head on.

The truck then either jackknifed to the left or just veered to the left and crossed a dirt field that lies between Sandy Ridge and Kendale. The truck then stopped before crossing over Kendale Rd.

I even slow down during off hours and weekends in construction zones! There's just too much that can go wrong in these areas...…. last weekend I saw a worker who was sitting on a piece of equipment of sorts and started to jump off which would have but him over the concrete barriers and in traffic. You could tell by his reaction, he didn't realize what he was about to do! This was while going through Statesville...

Was going up hwy 29 out of gso toward brown summit area where the bypass ties in couple years ago and one of the off Road dump trucks had come over the barricade and was straddle it with one front tire in middle oncoming traffic lane stuck. There was a whole lot of hurry in that construction crew trying to get it back before some one hit it.

Hit one of those with any highway vehicle and it would make for a very bad day......and those off-highway dump trucks around here are like Tonka toys compared to the big quarry/mine trucks.

This one they had a narrow road at the time for the off road trucks to travel between the bridge base and the barricade and figured he got a little to close to baricade and the front tire climbed it and sent him over into traffic before he could do much about it. Truck driver prob didnt feel much but luckly the cars got out of the way.

The quarry truck would be kinda like this

Thinking about this tanker truck something strange was going on if tbe news reports are correct with timeline that from time he was first reported to 911 in randleman area till time he crashed 2 hrs later in greensboro. That is not a 2 hr drive by anymeans so where all did he go that they could not find him. You would think as bad as his driving was people would have continued to report him along the way.

listening to the 911 calls...I'm amazed that people aren't aware of basic stuff like which direction they're driving or what road they're on.

Happens a lot...

Dispatch ask folks their location and they have absolutely no idea.

They MIGHT be able to tell you which road they’re traveling, but NB, SB, EB, WB or nearest exits/mile markers? Fugetaboudit.

Reminds me of the one a year or two ago where a dump truck driver ran up on a teachers car during a rear end accident. He had been called in on several times as well. I think it happened in Durham.
