Shot the "goshoot outdoors" USPSA match last weekend that included 4 classifier stages so I went from nothing to having a classification in 1 match. Handy.

On the classifier stages I shot the best I've ever done at a match, there were errors but no major screw-ups. I was very happy, and today was rewarded with:

I'm going to print it out and put it on the fridge. :)

Since everyone likes pictures, here's the production gun and top quality ammo used:

That's it, just wanted to share. Now I have to practice more.

Also of note this was the third USPSA match I've shot, so the skills from the Wake matches and random IDPA shoots do translate once you figure out what's important in USPSA scoring. It's not "time plus", and shooting it like that will not get you what you want in the USPSA world.

I've only done 2 IDPA matches, but hope to do a USPSA one eventually. What do I need to know? (Besides "move faster.")

If your gun runs dry on the last target, don't reload for one more shot. Take the miss and don't take the time. It's all about points per second.
Sounds like a huge challenge for me....which is why I do these things! LOL.
Thanks!

You can't miss fast enough.

Sure you can, if the hit factor penalty for the Mike was worse than taking the time to shoot for the points.

USPSA is a memory game/math game/cardio game with a smidge of shooting thrown in. That’s what makes it fun. The “strategery.”

Also, don't run your gun dry.

A reload with one in the chamber is faster than a reload from empty.
I think I got "dinged" in IDPA for something like that...either I dropped a magazine with one still in it, or I had a round in the chamber when I dropped the magazine....it's been a while.

I probably need to watch a few of these before jumping in, like I did with my IDPA ones. Sounds complicated, but I'm sure you guys will help me along without too much eye-rolling....right?? lol.

This penalty wouldn’t happen in a USPSA match, where everybody has a keen understanding of how utterly ridiculous it is.

I think you are gonna do even better on the longer field courses too @Jayne.

Congrats!! What was your rank in IDPA? Curious to see how they translate to USPSA.

Never got an IDPA ranking. When doing the 5x5 classifier on my own I usually do pretty poorly. None of the fancy movement helps when the classifier is just standing and blasting.

Sounds like a challenge to me!
I’ve shot with you enough times, seen your scores enough times, and run you as a shooter enough times to know you would kick some USPSA ass, my young friend.

Go forth, and make it so.

:D

It's much easier to pick up than idpa rules in my experience. Aside from safety rules, and equipment divisions it boils down to: shoot these targets as fast as possible in whatever manner gets you the most points per second. Most points power second wins.
