2 years since my friend Lady passed.
Back in 2008 I was doing some contract meter reading before I got edumucated.
On one of the particularly bad days, in a neighborhood I really hated down in Gaston county, Lady came up to me in a yard wagging her entire butt. One thing about meter reading, you always keep track of and know who has dogs and what your chances are of being bit, but Lady was new to me.
As I was petting her, the older couple who lived in the house came out to talk to me and noticed I was taking an interest in her. Apparently she had shown up a couple weeks earlier during a snow and had hunkered down on their porch. They had cleared a space for her and put out some blankets and she'd been hanging around ever since. They tried finding an owner, but she wasn't chipped and no one would claim her. They assumed she had been set out.
Unfortunately, they already had two small indoor dogs and were on a fixed income. They couldn't really afford to feed her and she was only getting table scraps. Their grand kids had started calling her "Lady Dog".
I came back at the end of the day and loaded her up (well, opened the door and she jumped in) the truck, which would have gotten me fired had anyone found out. Rode the hour back to the office just watching the scenery (first picture is from that day). Got there, pulled up to my car real sneaky like, opened the truck door, opened my car door, and she jumped in there too.
Most gentle, most even tempered dog I've ever had. Loved kids and other dogs, always happy to see you. Just a sweetheart.
