Franklin County suspends gun permits

Carteret County Sheriff's office has stopped doing fingerprints EXCEPT for concealed carry permits. Love Sheriff Buck.

In all seriousness...I feel a bit more pragmatic about this than some of yall...I had to go into the sheriffs department last week for finger printing for adoption, and there were at least 10 people in there for permits...and this was early in the morning. I imagine its the most common thing people go to the department for, so if you are trying to limit contact with people, cutting out the most common things people show up for is pretty smart.

If you make yourself a barrier between a constitutional right and people, you don't get to whine about that barrier exposing you to the people you've imposed it on.

I’m sure the people that work there are the least impacted. They wear gloves, are often behind glass windows, and can limit contact. It’s the hundreds of people coming in as a steady stream touching door handles, chairs, coughing, sneezing, and doing all the other things people do.

And they are still showing up for work...not running and hiding.

I get it, permits and so forth such. I’m with you. But it’s all part of the over all attempt at the government cutting down on gatherings and crowds. This one just happens to annoy us more.

Looks like I spoke too soon. Now, new chip applications are not being taken due to fingerprints. Renewals and pistol purchase permits can be done online.

Sanitize the touch points. Restaurants are doing this. Wipe what people touch and do it on a regular schedule.

I have a daughter who is a nurse that works in the local Health Department. She and I had a discussion about this. Sanitize touch points. Wash and sanitize your hands. Lastly. Don't touch your face, mouth ect unless you wash first.

I ASSUME that everyone is going to follow the SAFE protocols. Other than in and out of doors....the FUEL PUMP handle and the Key Pads are the "germiest" places around. I am now latex gloving my right hand and handling my CC with my left. My left is used to open the filler spout and such. My right (gloved) is only used on the pump and it's surfaces.

I am also quarantining all purchased groceries and Amazon and such deliveries for 48 - 72 hours. All the data says that cardboard can support the virus for 24. SO....a triple safety factor on packages. The stuff inside ought to be OK. We are also barely handling the mail and sorting, but not opening and let the stuff we need cool off. We wash after that...

You aren't wrong. Point being, it isn't always because DEY CUMMIN FER YA GUNZ!!!

The previous Sheriff, Jerry Jones, definitely was. In 2014-15 he was one of only two NC Sheriffs who explicitly stated he would NOT enforce gun bans. Winstead hasn't done anything prior to this particularly problematic, but he's no big supporter from what I've seen. He's registered and runs as a Democrat, and every time I've met him, I walk away feeling like Venkman.

Plenty of Fudds out there, LOTS of hunters I've heard say "nobody needs an AR-15 to hunt". The Goodmon's (Capitol Broadcasting owners, you know, WRAL) are avid hunters. When I worked there, they even were working very closely with the Duck Commander guys creating hunting apps.
Yeah, "hunter" and "2A" mean nothing.

I haven't heard anything from Winstead that reassures me he won't jump on serious control measures if he has the chance. I HAVE met him, and I'm not impressed. "Politician" is the best way I can describe him. In my more rural part of the county, he is not well liked.

Well If they are gonna be that way about it "No body needs to hunt."
