As much as I don't want to plant much this spring, it's looking like a good idea. We were trying to sell our house but with the pandemic word thrown out there by WHO, it's looking like a prudent move to A. plant a garden and B. stay put for a while.

When do most of y'all start breaking ground on your summer gardens? I usually start mid-March and try to work a little lime and compost in about 3 weeks ahead of planting time.

We just moved into a new place on 10.5 acres (9.5 is wooded) in January, and originally had zero plans for a garden this year. With whats going on, I decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to have at least a little something.

Planted some corn, okra, and yellow squash last weekend. Cut down a few cedar trees yesterday (will cut down a few more this week), and plan on building a raised bed or two this weekend to plant some bush beans and watermelon this coming weekend.

Later this year I plan on clearing a few more trees so I can have a larger garden next year.

Pretty early for all that in Zone 7B where I am. I follow this guide for the Piedmont almost exclusively

Planted garlic, cabbage, tomatoes and jalapenos. Yup, I know it's early, if we get a cold snap it was an inexpensive error. If not we'll hopefully have fruit a month earlier.

My Grand Mother and all of her friends believed if you didn't plant your garden on Good Friday you might as well throw your seed in the trash. Old Folks.....now I are one. I can't garden worth a crap. Never had any luck. Admire those that do!

she ain't far off. Our air temps usually don't break the magic 60 deg night time temp mark until around Easter ;) Soil temps are 90% of germination.

I normally plant around April 1, so a couple weeks early for me. Always did well. I'm a little east of the piedmont though...in Sanford.

Not far from you, over in bear creek. I plowed the garden saturday and with all the rain the last few days, the rice paddy is almost ready.
