Wuhan, nCV, germs....

Dangit. I figured with Meck doing it we weren't far behind. Oddly, just saw the mayor in the grocery store shopping an hour ago. He looked kinda beat.

Anybody know how South Korea can test so many for the virus when compared to here in our country. Better yet, how can we accomplish what the Korean's have done without using their methods.

I wonder if it was her idea to take that chemical?
Of course it was ...
NBC News spoke to the wife ... "I had (the substance) in the house because I used to have koi fish," she told the network. "I saw it sitting on the back shelf and thought, 'Hey, isn't that the stuff they're talking about on TV?'"

NPR Fact Check
Now, the United States has tested more than 300,000 people, government officials touted Tuesday, noting it had passed South Korea in the raw number of tests conducted.
Because we have more people, the same number of tests are a proportionately smaller part of our population.
At about 300,000 tests in each country, that means South Korea has tested 1-in-170 people; the United States: 1-in-1,090.

AZ man dies after taking chloroquine thinking it would protect him from the virus.
Forbes reported that Trump said it was safe because it has been around a long time and he is responsible for the man's death.
Problem in the man and his wife took chloroquine phosphate - an aquarium cleaning product. Trump did not endorse all forms of chloroquine as safe.
The wife survived and blames Pres. Trump for the death of her husband.

Hoarding mentality. Gotta take it all. Get their fair share. I bet they got 170lbs of dog food and 300 rolls of TP squirreled away to boot.

If they would have been smart and taken it the right way they'd have been fine. Gotta crush it up, mix in some meth and diesel fuel, then snort it off the camel toe of a dead hooker.

Well, maybe not, but that's the rumor I'm going to start.

Anyone remember this article that ran for one day. Interesting read about a Harvard professor who took money and had two Chinese nationalist working on biological research found with vials going to China. Could not be related but shows the dangers we face by letting foreign entities overrun our schools and research centers. This was going on for years. It would be very easy to inflict nations with a deadly disease and ruin us economically.

you don't have to be an idiot with TDS to not understand that "medicine" can kill you.
Years ago I was chatting with a Resident from one of the local hospitals back up in MI and he was wondering why they only give patients X amount of medicine to cure something when they obviously should give X*100 to really knock that illness down...
Gave me a fun chance to sketch up some curves and explain efficacy, toxicity, and therapeutic window. He wondered why they never taught him that stuff in med school... and I was like "uh, i'm pretty sure they did at some point. maybe you just missed it"

What do they call the guy that graduates in last place with his med school class?
Doctor.

I hope that this event is a wake-up call to our country. We don’t need the cheapest crap built by children in other countries. We don’t need students from around the world filling our universities. We need products built at home. We need our own children to have the desire and be able to afford attending American universities. We need those same children filling tech and medical jobs that are so in demand now.

And don’t get me started on the skills trades.

Not saying that we should close our doors completely to non-American students and professionals as there are definitely brilliant people that want to come here and contribute to our country. But we shouldn’t be letting foreign students come here for a lower-than-American-students-pay education only to take that knowledge back to a competing country.

Most of the items I use are made in China or Mexico. I look for the supply chain to diminish. The cost will skyrocket to make up for decreasing sales. That goes hand in hand as I’ve seen in the past. When you give control to an outside entity you cripple the ability to perform.

China has gained from our schools turning from a learning center to a business. Gladly we accept their money knowing full well they steal our technology and make cheaper products and low quality at that. Nothing good comes out of China as we have seen. Even diseases.

And just like that, I'm working from home until further notice.
Hey, did you try your echolink this morning? I was on it for a little bit and then it said, "Not in QSO" and I couldn't reconnect to our usual machine, but I could to the one that works better for you.

I am also surprised your not on the federal 'essential' list.

There are people at the company who are on the essential list, but I'm not one of them.

I did get on echolink this morning and talked to David and Roger. It was the first time I've really used echolink, and I'm not a fan - it's a little bitchy, but I suppose it's better than nothing. I need a short tower or a telephone pole (and a way to move it).

Agreed. It is better than nothing. It is highly sensitive to change in mobile internet, for example switching from a 4G to 3G tower or going from cellular to wifi and will disconnect. I always say (to David) that it's the damned programmers in Zimbabwe ... or some other 3rd world country. He doesn't appreciate my humor.

It's scary the people that make it through med school. We've had some really bright, really good ones, but man we've had some that were worth about as much as a coat rack.

I vividly remember describing to one why you shouldn't perform chest percussion on a patient with floating ribs. Same one ordered an asthma maintenance drug on a patient because they had a cough.
Coat racks are useful all the time :)

My youngest son announced at the dinner table, “Trump shouldn’t be tweeting that out about taking that!”

I said calmly, “He didn’t tell anyone to take aquarium cleaner."
Exactly. If people started drinking bleach or huffing Lysol, would that be his fault too?

My rant for today: I had a “ WTF” at our house today.

Backstory: my wife is a veterinarian, I manage the hospital, my 80 year old mom and wife’s 40 year old handicap cousin lives with us.

I have been pushing the “ Stay at home” for mom and cousin. Our vet hospital is still open but we have strict distance protocol. We get home from work, decon, clothes go into wash. I have been doing the errands-food, bills, med pick ups... decon as I go and when I get home. Wednesday is wife’s day off, another vet works. We are short staffed so I am working. I get home and no cars are at home- mom went out and took cousin to get lunch and go to Walmart. Wife has gone to Walmart to get RX.... and grocery shop.

I have enough fresh and can food for 3 weeks and enough deep storage for 12months!

So F me. You can’t save those that will not save themselves....

Our company is essential to the decontaminations so our entire company has a blanket letter from what I'm seeing. I'll have to post pictures if/when I get sent on decontamination projects.

I picked up my mrs from the airport late monday night and we talked about all the restrictions coming.
she said in no uncertain terms that she wanted nothing to do with this mess and was going to just stay at home and not go ANYWHERE because she doesn't need to.
not even 36 hours later, this morning, she was talking about how she wanted to go out to the grocery store before all the big lockdowns (that won't affect the grocery stores) hit.

Of course, when we moved down here, she said she'd be buying everything in bulk once every couple weeks on the trip into town, because it's an hour just driving there and back and she just doesn't to deal with that... and I think she makes more trips into town every week now than I do (and i work in town at least 6 days a week).

Just says IMG for me... Something on my end?
Another member tells me that sometimes. It’s either because I copied it from another site or posting from a Mac.

1:40 p.m.: A Harnett County resident has become the second North Carolinian to die from complications of the new coronavirus, according to a state website.

2:20 p.m.: State Health Director Dr. Elizabeth Tilson said half of the 10,000 hospital beds in North Carolina are empty and available to handle any surge in patients from the pandemic. Hospitals also are expected to provide more beds during a surge, she said.

Eighteen percent of the intensive care unit beds are availabl
e, she said.

So only 18% of all ICU beds are open and we are just getting started.... Now about that DNR....

Most clinics are closed, all elective surgeries have been cancelled, and they are admitting only emergency admits. The hospital is a virtual ghost town. But some of our ICUs are full, or close to it.

This happens where I work, and I walk out. We're already being sent to war unarmed, shorted on PPE, refused testing even after we've come in contact with probable infections.
Aesop at Raconteur Report says that the day they try to order him into a room to treat a Covid patient without proper PPE is the day he walks out the door.

A friend of mine's wife was in your ICU for several weeks recently after some serious surgery. They sent her to a rehab facility where they couldn't care for her properly and she wound up back at your hospital. The family is looking at options like a better facility for a short while or even just bringing her home and getting some in home help while she recovers.

This will be where I draw the line. I took no oath, but I live by my own.
We're not hospital, but we deal with blood/plasma and get to stand around up close to people in a room full of the general public who are known to not make the best health decisions. We try to keep distance, but you can only do that so much when the job requires touching... Our centers are starting to get hit hard (for reasons unknown), rules are being temporarily changed, and we're on the brink of a walkout every day. Corporate is calling on back room people to spend more time out on the floor, which means they can't do their own jobs. I tried taking a laptop home today for my day off... VPN is shot.
We have nitrile gloves, labcoats, and face shields that clip onto eyeglass frames. In theory, none of the people we interact with are sick because they're all screened - but our screeners are understandably nervous about all of it.

The wife survived and blames Pres. Trump for the death of her husband.
Typical. Trump never said to self-medicate, but idiots always need to find someone else to blame. (let's completely leave aside that what he took isn't what Trump was talking about

Exactly. If people started drinking bleach or huffing Lysol, would that be his fault too?
Quite sure it would be.

They need corpsman to take temps, whip out the silver bullet on everyone entering the facility
Funny, my son just got hired to do exactly that.

SEIU located 39 million N95 masks, will sell to hospitals for $5 each, that's $195 million dollars.
3M N95 masks box of 20 $24 at Home Depot sell for $23.95, or $1.20 each. Talk about price gouging and how did they 'find' 39,000,000 masks?

SEIU is a commie Democrat group. Of course they want to profit off death. It’s what they do. At some point the decent public employees have to make a stand.

SEIU and Redfored are enemies. I don’t care how homey their jobs are.

It would be interesting to discover where the masks came from.

Nevertheless, it is a creative way for blue-state politicians to funnel inordinate amounts of taxpayer money to a union.
