Viking war music... seriously awesome!

Careful listening to that kind of music, it's a deep hole to fall into. You go from the really accessible stuff to all kinds of obscure folk and death metal bands.
Before too long you'll be wearing chainmail and standing in a pine forest head banging.

I started in death and black metal and took a real hard turn into more folksy Scandinavian stuff.

That’s some good stuff right there!

Here's an older track from a well established band who was sort of on the leading edge of the scandi folk scene coming back.

Like I said, it's a deep pit you fall in when you start getting into scandi music.

I'm also strangely obsessed with "kulning" - cattle calling:

Faroes folk song

Make the sound and listen
Few are about to talk
The farmer was the first to build the world
This I will tell about

Widely on the roads golden helmets sing
Up on their horses that jump
Which could be heard from far away as their spurs ring
Widely on the roads golden helmets sing
Friends, they ride in the woods
with such good endurance
they saw burning warm fire
and in addition good food.

A very pretty female version.

I dig the sound. If you like them check out The Hu. Mongolian Heavy metal band.

I have rather...eclectic...tastes in music. I get laughs and strange looks from co-workers for listening to the Hu, and others.

The Sami people in Finland practice throat sing as best I remember.

This thread has been my playlist tonight! This is awesome stuff.
I pulled everything out of the safe and cleaned and oiled it all up as I listened. So relaxing!

Valravn is a little more modernised with some electronic elements, but they're one of my favorites.

They're probably getting ready to blow up. Their music is being used in an upcoming PC game.

That is pretty cool. I hope they make to close by when they tour in the states later this year. Bands like these are nice since we are surrounded by regurgitated pop rock, pop country, and mumble music.

had a big sheetRock drop today, 100+ boards, had to dig deep and pull out some inspiration, figured I revisit this thread with a few more.

good one for powering through a work out!

really gets going in the last few minutes
