This news just broke within the hour.

This should go a long way to helping solidify the current lawsuits against governors/sheriffs/politicians who thought it wise to infringe on 2A during this pandemic.

The redefinition of essential industries includes firearms & ammo manufactures, dealers, distributors, retailers, and shooting ranges.

Interesting ……..

From the release:

The guidance specifically includes “[w]orkers supporting the operation of firearm or ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors, and shooting ranges” as part of the Essential Critical Infrastructure.

GOA Senior Vice President Erich Pratt said, “It is very encouraging to see CISA include the firearms industry as essential. In these uncertain times, the ability to protect yourself — and to acquire firearms, magazines and ammunition — should not be ignored. GOA/GOC thanks the Trump Administration for listening to our letter and ensuring that Americans can protect themselves in these difficult times.”

... and Things that make you go hmmm ...

Yes, Trump added them to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) list!

But how will that play out with state and local orders but most refer to the CISA list as the guide for their orders but it is a guide not law ...

This list is advisory in nature. It is not, nor should it be considered, a federal directive or standard. Additionally, this advisory list is not intended to be the exclusive list of critical infrastructure sectors, workers, and functions that should continue during the COVID-19 response across all jurisdictions. Individual jurisdictions should add or subtract essential workforce categories based on their own requirements and discretion.

I was going to use this pronouncement as ammunition for reopening Durham County Wildlife Club, at least to members. But if you read the CISA Advisory..., it pertains to the Workforce. Since DCWC and DPRC, and clubs like those, don't have a "workforce," I am curious if the implication is for them to be able to stay open?

So does this mean public shooting ranges will be re-opening?

I read the official email from DCWC. I am a retired Health, Safety and Environmental Director from a Fortune 500 company. A fellow member that is very conversant with laboratory and contamination protocols and have debated that issue. We were of the opinion that we would have to wear latex gloves and take other precautions as the key pad, locks, doors, target frames, targets, etc. could be contaminated. Probably highly unlikely. Be since we are more than 7 decades, and counting... was the risk worth it. We would also be concerned about potential contact or distancing. We are NOT Paranoid...just, we feel, sufficiently informed to say.... NOPE. We have other alternatives for shooting and decided that until the weather gets hotter and the humidity is higher that DCWC was not within our “personal safety and potential exposure” parameters.

We are pistol shooters. The skeet and trap and sporting clays use hand held devices for “pulling”. I use latex gloves for pumping gas. So to be not at risk, any device or surface or whatever that is being handled by members would be potentially “at risk”. I think that was the conclusion of the board and was the “intent” or reason for Dave’s later.

Again, each of us depending on our knowledge, our age, our health, our loved ones health, etc.... has to make the call. I have been totally isolated....save a fuel stop...latex gloves.

I will be less concerned in June when the risk of community contamination is reduced....and maybe more Government test data and scientific studies on the life of the virus on surfaces.

Took a little digging. Not that I am skeptical. But I did follow the links and found the official PDF

https://www.cisa.gov/sites/default/...rastructure_Workforce_Version_2.0_Updated.pdf

OK....it is in there if you keep reading.

Funny thing....CNN, MSNBC, AP, ABC, etc. don’t seem to have found that out....as of this post.

Remember, local governors, local officials in all communities and/or municipalities can tighten or expand the government regulations to meet the perceived needs of their citizens.

But, as an astute friend and fellow poster @FredB told me.... this sure provides a bit of support to the firewall to prevent the lawsuits aimed at the gun industry for every wound inflicted...even those in self defense.

I guess we will see....

Our club is open to members. But we have shut down any of the organized events and meetings.

I am certainly not going to debate precautions and virus spread with a health and safety expert. But I guess my take is a little different. If all the items at the club in your list could be contaminated, and the fuel pumps also, then every piece of food packaging that comes into your house is contaminated, every piece of mail, etc. I see it as nigh impossible to decontaminate every possible thing you come into contact with. DCWC is mainly an outdoor facility of about 100 acres, maybe 20 of which could be subject to contamination. The risk, to my way of thinking as a layman, is about the same as golf courses which are still in operation. There are ways to mitigate the risk at the club, such as not passing skeet controllers between members - one of the squad would have to volunteer to pull for the rest of the squad, while not shooting. I guess those procedures are too onerous to implement and insure, so the safe thing to do is shut the club down. We certainly can't depend on members following protocols and being responsible.

By the way I'll soon be 66, so I'm also in the higher risk category.

Well, that made me an essential employee, so our doors are staying open. I prefer to work in the office compared to work at home and I am definitely social distancing with other employees. I am in Rockingham County, so no reported cases.....yet. I am trying to take precautions and to be honest, outside of work, I am pretty much a hermit. Girlfriend has been working from home for 3 weeks now, but we are still not seeing each other, just because I could bring it into her. I do not want to be sick, whether it is a case of the squirts or Covid 19, so I really don't have a problem staying as far away from people as I can and washing my hands multiple times a day. Hell my callouses are about gone from washing and using so much hand sanitizer:)

I read the official email from DCWC.

As of April 15 DCWC is going to off-hours. That means DCWC will be open the same as DPRC, members only. The Board, in their wisdom, removed all chairs from trap and 5-stand areas because we can't be trusted to sit too close to each other. The clubhouse is closed so no bathroom facilities - but we have 100 acres with about 30 or more acres of treed areas.
