talk to me about xs big dot sights

I have a set on a SA EMP4 Carry and very pleased. They work well for an old fat man with bad eyes.

Very visible at night!

About the same time I put a Vortex Venom (6 moa) on a Sig 229. While 6 moa is a big dot, it works VERY well for the short ranges usually encountered in defensive work. Very easy to pick up the dot because of the size and very easy to put on target. I also put on can height Trijicon sights for a true co-witness and I really like it for a carry piece. Got a nice OWB holster that keeps it tight to the body and it's great. Because it shuts itself off after 12 hours I just leave it on all day and shut it off at bedtime.

If you want minute of man at close range, they're fine. If you want to hit in the black at 21 feet, they're not likely to be great.
I wound up swapping my rear sight back to standard but keeping the big front dot on one of my pistols. height was the same so it worked okay.

This. I have been trying to shoot most of my pistols at 25 yards to really practice on accuracy. The larger Ameriglo’s on a few guns don’t help. Match the sights to the use.

I have the Big Dots on my G26. Love 'em. I always do well with the "popsicle" or 2-dot "snowman" sights & they're more than adequate for that gun's intended use. If I wanna shoot further or shoot for groups, I've got several choices much better suited for that task.

My eyes are shot too. Tried big dot and didn't like it. A u-notch rear made a bigger difference than increasing the size of the front sight.

As someone with pretty bad eyes/astigmatism, color and contrast are going to help a LOT more than sight size.

I would recommend any of the front night sights with a day-glo bright surround (yellow or orange) and a plain black rear with a wide notch (U or square). Ameriglo and Trijicon are good options for the fronts.

Ameriglo makes a rear sight with a .180 notch. In conjunction with one of the bright front sights, you can get a very fast sight picture with big light bars on the side for alignment confirmation.

my eyes are shot. need some help. how are these sights for a home defense handgun?
Given the bolded qualifier above, I think they're fine.

I have these on my G19, and at combat distances (0-10yd) they're fine for me - and my tired old eyes.

I love the Ameriglos and have them on other guns. They do not make cz sights

I had some on a G43 I picked up pre-owned. The sights went in the trash in favor of Trijicon HDs. I had tried to use the XS Big Dots in a class where the instructor was a stickler on accuracy and my hits were about two inches lower than he wanted. He called me out...I had taken classes with him before so he knew I could make the hits. I blamed the new gun/sights...being a veteran instructor who had heard excuses before...he said, "gimme that" and ran the drill himself...hits two inches too low. He hands it back and says "those sights are the problem, I'm sorry."

I don't have them on anything currently......I like them. Black U notch rear and big white Ball..use inside 10 yards.

I think they are fine for typical handgun range of 50 yds or less. I used them on a Glock 17 in USPSA for a while.

I only have them on my Glock 43x right now and I don't shoot it much but ran a couple mags through the gun quick today. This wasn't slow fire so I think there is more accuracy to be had.

Under 15 yards you need to cover your intened point of impact with the front sight. As you go past 15 yards you move to a 6 o'clock hold. If you were using 6 o'clock hold at close range that may explain why the shots were low.

this helps a ton

I can tell you they are often not drop in and need fitting, sometimes to a rather significant degree. Even on guns that are supposed to be drop in.

Once installed they seem to work fine for intended purposes.

I tried them on a G17, didn't really like them. For fast close shooting it was fine, but at those ranges you're sorta point shooting anyway. When accuracy was called for (in a match) I just couldn't do it fast enough. If I worked at it they could be accurate, but not quickly and being 3x as slow at 15 yards was not worth being some not-measurable amount faster at 3 yards. I switched back to more traditional sights. Maybe I could get used to them and get fast and accurate with them, but it's not worth it to me to have to deal with it.
