Here for your perusal is Canadian Contract S&W H-E pistol serial number 17464. According to the Smith & Wesson letter this revolver was shipped from their factory on September 23, 1915 and delivered to Remington Arms -Union Metallic Cartridge Company, New York City, agents for the British Government. Any information on unit marking appreciated; a good guess for "1. H.R. 2." might be 1st Battalion, Halifax (or possibly Highland) Regiment, 2nd Division. Note the Dominion of Canada (DNC) proofs on each chamber of the cylinder, C-Broad Arrow Military Acceptance mark on the frame right behind the cylinder and the Inspectors Mark Royal Small Arms Factory Enfield on the frame right above the SW logo.
