My FFL buddy over in Katy says his transfers have gone through the roof in the last couple of weeks. He has people fill out an online 4473, email a copy of their DL and CWP, and pay the transfer fee online. They set up an appointment and he meets them at curbside. He says it works so well that he'll continue to do it this way after all of this settles down.

I posted in the Facebook an invitation to friends and family that may be buying for the first time to hit me up for advice and “101 level” famiarization training. I have a lot of family and friends that are liberal leaning.

I got 6 responses saying, “hey, never thought I’d ask you about this...”

We all know the actual sales numbers are higher, chart above only shows those that went through the NICS system, and does not include sales that went through the gun show loophole.

Exactly.

NICS alone, that works out to almost 120,700 firearms PER DAY.

Factor in private sales and those not requiring NICS call-in....those numbers are much higher.

"gun show loophole" is zero sum. Since it's a private sale, one person buys what another person loses.
Importantly, the number does NOT include NICS exempt sales. e.g. some time before march I got a background check ran on me and picked up a small pile of purchase permits from cumberland county. the numbers do not include any of the ones i bought in march... and i bought a few things...

Why no CHP & avoid all that purchase permit mess?

long story, but i usually work 6+ days a week and haven't scheduled my interview for a carry license yet. my days off are usually either me being grumpy and refusing to answer my phone, or answering my phone and working remotely.

Cumberland does interviews for CHPs? Wow. Here, the cute female desk sergeant takes your paperwork & check & your permit is usually turned around in 2 or 3 weeks.

You may have to schedule a time to come in to do fingerprinting and all but there's no interview that I have ever heard of. I've never had to do an "interview" of any kind.
Robeson does the same.

I'd bet a few of the private sales have gone to a first time gun owner and to me that goes on the plus side of the ledger.
