I wish you were close enough for me to have put my barrel in with yours. I have not messed with mine any although the ATI mags I ordered showed up. They are working us pretty hard lately. Well that and I have gotten pretty side tracked playing with glocks.

I will just wait for now, my kid wants to shoot it full length for whatever reason.

Anybody else interested in sending him one now? Or ever? I can give him a heads-up to keep notes or any tooling he might fab up.

Quick update. Upper delivered sometime yesterday. Nick just called me to talk about it for a minute. He doesn’t have a way to cut metric threads on his lathe. That surprised me a little, but I’m not a machinist.

So I had the option of just going with a cut and crown, or having him order an M16-1.0 die. It would’ve obviously been cheaper to just do the cut/crown. I could cancel my choke set (~$65) and not have to pay for a thread job.

But I figured do it right the first time. Ok, maybe not “right”, but at least do it how I wanted it. My thought was that a smooth bore barrel that’s going to end up being under 12” might perform a bit better with a choke, even a mild choke. So I’m not canceling my choke set order and Nick is ordering the die he needs. I’ll pay for part of it and he’ll absorb the rest to have it available for anybody else that wants this same job done.

Hopefully at least a couple of you end up having yours cut and rethreaded.

Not sure how much extra time this’ll add, but he said the place usually ships within a couple days. That being said, if you want yours done now let me know and I’ll give him a heads-up and give you the shipping info.

Greg did you consider having it threaded for Rem Choke or Benelli Crio instead? Just thinking as much as you like your cans, you may want a Salvo one day for this and your SBS/AOW. Id seriously consider that if it isnt too late.

Yep. 12ga only.

XCaliber makes (or made) one that did 12 & 20.

That’s not to say I haven’t considered a Form 1 can for it. And if I did, I could do it with a direct thread adapter in M16x1.

Still working the replacement. Last I’d heard from them was 3/23 after I’d inquired about a repair or replacement since I never got the automated email to say they’d received my package. Sent another reply on 3/31, but never heard anything. Next email was 4/8 asking for an update or just a reply to let me know they were working. Got this reply on the 9th:

The optic I’m going to try on it arrived yesterday. Four reticle options, in both red and green.

Random updates:

1. Checked in with Nick to see about the die. Just wanted to make sure it wasn’t going to be a delay for weeks/months because the place was closed. He said it arrived Monday, but he hasn’t gotten to mine, yet. At least I’m in the queue at this point. I expect it to ship within a week...we’ll see.

2. No sign of the replacement magazine from ATI

3. Chokes have been pushed out again, to 4/27 this time

Also got a shipping notice on the ATI mag...

And found some of the 2.5” 000 shells in stock online...grabbed six boxes with free shipping.

Never order from Optics Planet. I had something similar happen with some Talon charging handles. Ordered Black Friday. I finally called in April and canceled them. They charged my card anyway. They are a disaster.

I’ve had several orders with no issues. I knew up front this item was backordered. But when it was $100 everywhere else and ~$65 (w/ free shipping) there, I can wait. Not like I really need them for any deadline.

Initial email to ATI sent on 3/15...replacement mag just delivered on 4/16. Not necessarily as fast as I’d hoped, but they did reply to each email within 24 hours or so even during this COVID insanity.

In the meantime, I got bored last night and spent a couple minutes installing the XTM hand stop and rail panels. Just enough color so it’s not all black, and the SplitFix looks pretty good with the Magpul pieces.

I measured it to be a hair under 26.5” when I made the mark on the barrel for ECCO to cut to.

That’s the official length for the ATF, with the brace and flash hider removed. So from the end of the buffer tube to the muzzle. I’ll post it up once I have it back.

And once I test fire it...I’ll send it your way with @gunbelt if you wanna give it a run.

Nick just called to collect payment. Probably drop it off at USPS tomorrow. Thought maybe it would go out in time for me to get it Sat and go to the range on Sun, but that’s not happening. Assuming it shows up and PHA is still open for members, I’ll take it to the range next weekend...unless the shipping notice on my 000 buckshot shows it’s coming but due to arrive the week after. Looking forward to the test drive.

Assembled pics and measurements will go up as soon as I have it back. Giggity-giggity!!

Getting ready to join a 4-hour training class, but couldn’t resist putting it together and getting a pic. I’ll post more later, plus the measurements...but it did manage to stay ~26.5” OAL as the ATF would measure. Here’s the teaser for now...

I want to try that with this one. We’re going to have a men’s event with some guys at church whenever this rona crap lifts. One of the guys has an uncle with land and a skeet/trap/?? setup. I figured I’d try it and none of them would realize it wasn’t a rifle for awhile.

Alright, here’s what I have...

Measured without the brace and flash hider, it comes in right about 26.5”, which makes it a “firearm”:




Rod down the barrel to the muzzle face gives a barrel length of a hair under 12”...which really means nothing, but I wanted to know:




Length with brace fully collapsed and FH installed is roughly 27.5”:




With brace fully extended that increases to just under 30.5”:

I can’t even remember if I posted which lower I was using earlier in the thread, but I took new pics so here they are:

The plan is to take it to the range this coming weekend and see how it goes. I’ll attempt to align the sights and red dot, and think I’ll go with 50’ as the distance. If all goes well when I shoot it, I’m going to let a couple guys on here give it a test run and report back.

First two shots at 50’ after just lining up the dot by looking through the barrel. Herter’s rifled slugs.



Last three shots after minor adjustments:



Not gonna expect a whole lot more out of this setup. All 15 in the mag made it into 5-1/2” circles.



Shot one round of 6-shot at that distance. Box is ~2’x3’ and it spread all the way around it:



Put up a Bloomberg sign at about half that distance, around 25’, and fired another round:



It didn’t reach the edges...so I fired three more at the same sign. You can see there’s not really many holes at the top or on either side.



Didn’t take any buckshot with me. Still waiting for my 000 to show up.

I used some blue loctite on the handguard screws yesterday, but they loosened up again today. At least it doesn’t affect the red dot zero. Will need to try something else to keep them in place.

I did have a couple failures. One was because the shells weren’t lined up right. When it failed, I pulled the mag. The 2nd round down was overlapping the 3rd, so it jammed a little and didn’t push the top round up as it should. I don’t know if this happened when I loaded it, or if one was able to get out of line while I was shooting. The mag was the 15rd one full of slugs I was using to sight in the red dot, so nothing rapid fire.

The other was when I tried to dump a 15rd mag just to see if it would do it. It had a failure about halfway through. Cycled the CH and finished the rest. All 15 did fire.
