2013 F150

I got in the truck today and ended up just sitting there for a couple minutes finishing some paperwork.

No key in the ignition switch.

On the passenger side I can hear what sounds like an electric motor cycling on for 6-7 seconds, stopping, running another 6-7, and so on until I got tired of listening to it and started the engine.

I’ve had this happen 3x more today. I can’t say it just started, ‘cause I’ll usually just start up as soon as I’m in the cab.

any ideas? I was thinking it sounds like washer fluid pump?

Potentially important info....a few weeks ago, my AC/heat fan started sounding like a jet engine at takeoff if I move past the lowest setting.

I didn’t think of that until just now as I don’t normally run AC/heat this time of year.

Probably related, bum blower motor, eh?

This won’t help your question any...

I’ve got a new 2019 F150 work truck that makes a slight cycling/electronic sound when I open the drivers door every morning. This when the door physically opens.

Makes me wonder just how many non-essential doohickeys are on the damn thing! The old man in me says “just another thing to break and keep the vehicle from running, and that I probably can’t fix myself!”

A tick tick tick, ticking time bomb type noise?

the fan? More like a propeller without a limiter/governor and missing 1/2 a blade.

The other noise, in the OP, is just an electric motor cycling like it’s priming a pump. No clicks; my phone couldn’t capture the sound well enough.

That is the fuel pump priming when you open the driver's door.
I believe that is for 2015+, so that wouldn't apply to OP truck.

My '17 and '18 would go BumpBumpBumpBump 4 times when I opened the door in the morning, then no more 'til next day.

My daughter has a 2019 Subaru Impreza that sometimes has an electric humming coming from the back when car is shut off. I will hear it in garage and when I open door and start and shut off car it’s gone. Doesn’t seem to cause the car issues though.

Is it the blend doors in the ac system moving you hear?

is there a reason for this motor to run when everything is shut down? Other than a short or otherwise broken?

I’m trying to determine if this is a “normal” thing or not.

Same happens on my Tacoma truck and wife’s Lexus. From my research I was told it is EVAP purge to prevent fuel vapors escaping, the test I was told is to try and it worked to open the gas cap to release the vapors and then tighten. Maybe same solution/test may work on the Ford truck.

That I cannot answer. Just know on couple vehicles I have had you could hear them moving before or after vehicle was started but it was usually just like a single move to a set postion and stop not a constant moving. Also know they or controllers for them seem to be a common failure point. Does your a/c heat blower or defrost seem to work like it should when you change threw the settings? Does it Blow out vents pretty equal flow and temp wise? Usually issues with that is where people seem to have problems with them.
