Oven door won't stay shut. Door is easy to remove and take apart, but I can't get the parts for the repair:

https://www.appliancepartspros.com/frigidaire-hinge-318024749-ap4366206.html

Everything I find is out of stock, and all the forums so far say "no replacements available" and no newer version. Found some chinese crap on ebay that looks like a knock-off of the part, for $315.

Is there some way for actual appliance repair people to figure out what newer parts will do the job?

(the wife hates the stove, has for years, is already browsing for replacements so suddenly those shitty flu-infested parts are looking less offensive...)

The obvious thing would be to call Frigidaire with the part number and ask what the new part number is.

I did email, calling isn't an option until tomorrow. I have low hopes for contacting them, I suspect they'll just want to sell me an extended warranty....

Just doing a simple google search on the part numbers found a bunch of them available, they are expensive though, $180.00.

While @Jerzsubbie tries to work his magic, we've gotten creative here.

We had been blocking the door with a chair when using the oven, but that's cumbersome and now the door won't stay closed enough to keep the light off. What to do? Tape? fails quickly, hard to use when baking. Chair again? gets in the way when it's gotta be there all the time. Screw in a hasp latch? Kinda destructive. Magnets? Well... I can't get them to stick to the metal with glue (don't have anything but superglue and it doesn't work). So.....

Stick one magnet in between the stainless face, and tape another to the specially bent screwdriver I've had for 15 years (comes in handy to pry stuff), and I give you the Redneck Door Holder Shutter 2000:

To open, just lift and it pops off the magnet and the door opens. To close, just insert the blade into the notch under the trim and press down until it clicks onto the magnet. Viola!

It takes very little force to keep the door closed, and this gravity assisted lever does just fine.

BTW, you should never throw away old hard drives without opening them up and getting the magnets out. They're incredibly strong and mounted onto stainless forms you can bend/drill/whatever to create custom mounts.

Here are some cross references, but you may have already seen them.

Have you tried reaching out to D&l parts company ? They usually have good parts list and good prices. When i have been to stores prices were better than they have listed online.

I get appliance parts from D&L here locally. They are very helpful and can cross reference parts.

D&L is a great parts distributor who happens to be HQ’ed right here in CLT. They’re one of the smaller ones but definitely some good guys over there. I’ve worked with them for almost 10yr.

I shot Jayne some leads but unfortunately his part has been out of production for a few years. There are some available on eBay and that seems to be the best bet if my leads don’t pan out for him. There are no confirmed alternative/subs for this one.

Don't know if they are still open, kinda doubt it after 20 years but there used to be a great appliance parts store in South Raleigh. Inside beltline on South Wilmington st. iirc

For future reference the better appliance places are

1. D&L Parts local stores cannot be entered. They will bring it to the car
2. Partselect.com. Even videos for part replacement
3. PartsTown.com. Has manuals and parts diagrams on the site
