Off Duty officer victim of road rage

A non LEO shootin like that would be thrown under the jail till they could grow a hangin tree.

With that said, my feelings still aint hurt

Definitely wouldn’t want to have to explain that in court.
“Well, judge, he was a imminent threat so I had to shoot him him the back of the head from 30 yards as he was running away......”

Wow... Looks like an asshole in a Mercedes cut off a guy, guy acts the fool and goes to far, but then starts to leave, and then gets murdered by the cop...

Any of us would be in prison guaranteed...

That said, F the guy in the van. We're all better off with him gone. Still, the double standard is disgusting...

No audio, so we don't know if LEO ID'd himself at any point, I did not like him shooting as he did except for the last hit.

Just being sure everyone saw the rag the van guy pulled out from under his hood, that looks like it a gun in it.

After the guy saw the cop guy had a gun, he decided he didn't want to go there and turned to leave. He was murdered plain and simple. At no point did the guy point the weapon at the officer. The time to shoot was on the approach, not when the confrontation was over. Cop should go to prison.

It looked like he didn't know the cop guy had a gun until he was walking back and got shot...

Wonder what would have happened to the cop if he wasn’t a cop, and didn’t have a gun to present when Mr Road Rage came back with his gun that was hidden under the hood.

Guy was a felon. Said so in the intro. He pulled a gun he shouldn't have even had. He got what he asked for.

Doesn't matter if he was a felon. You can't shoot people in the back, running away unless they pose a threat to others and he clearly did not.

Maybe in the eyes of the law but how would you have handled it if it was you and your wife was in the car?

And just for the record a felon with a gun does pose a threat.

Playing devil’s advocate for a moment, if a person pulls a weapon over a minor traffic interaction, are they not a threat to the population as a whole?

But yeah, any one of us that shoots someone in the back as they run away from an altercation would be in deep dodo, we would be charged with murder without question, but since the shooter is LE and since the deceased ended up being a felon, the shooter gets a pass.

But like others here, I’m actually ok with the outcome on this one, I “shouldn’t” be because of the double standard, but I am.

JR is pretty spot on with his analysis most the time even if a little blunt.
I have had just enough Jameson to say out loud that I have finally figured out how to read his posts and appreciate the value, while ignoring the delivery. There’s just one other guy on this forum I need to learn how to do that with.

from time to time he posts something that's just outrageously funny, so I keep an eye peeled for that...

He was shot in the back of his head, not his back. ;) Handgun with extended magazine. Guess they need to pop the hood to look for guns if they have a traffic stop and the driver is a known felon.

One other thing. The van driver/road rager/felon already popped his hood release from inside the van before he ever got out of his van in order to be able to retrieve his pistol from under the hood.

I believe the first two shots were justified but when the guy was clearly running off those were overkill.

I guess the state law in CA. allows you to shoot someone running if you think they are just trying to gain tactical advantage.
"California law says a person is allowed to shoot at someone who is running away, if it can be shown the shooter reasonably believed the other person was retreating to gain a tactical advantage and attack. In Antioch, for instance, a homeowner was cleared of criminal wrongdoing in 2014 when he shot at two unarmed burglars fleeing his home, later telling police he feared they might be running for cover to attack him."

They let a homeowner off on the same thing so it wasn't just because it was a cop.

Seems he is being sued though.

Need is a strong word.

If the felon got away and shot someone else then some would ask why didn't the off duty good guy do his job

That's easy to answer, when I'm not working I don't have to account for why I'm not performing my job duties. Off duty is off duty.
