For those of you who know me.

Wow, that sucks. Might not be great timing, but it sounds like you really need to re-evaluate your home location. Not easy I know, but most homes aren’t worth dying for. I’d also be doing some soul searching to see if this was random or caused by someone or something. Most homes don’t get shot up.

Stay safe and good luck.
we are in process of going under contract on home right now. RE agents, RE attorneys, and related administration is up and running (at least in central NC). In fact, this has been the best window for us because we would ordinarily be very bogged down with worked and picking kid up from daycare, sitting in traffic....its smooth sailing doing the home search right now.

My only note would be to exercise greater consideration regarding looking 'in' homes. We had a checklist that would need to pass before we made the seller family get out of the house for an hour during a pandemic for us to check it out. When all said and done we have vetted hundreds of homes online, did 'drive bye" (no pun intended) on a few dozen and only went inside maybe 5 or 6.

If your vehicles are a Chevy Silverado and a Jeep Compass, I have seen the incident/investigation report on CPD's web site.
From the pictures posted, it looks like a badge on the door ends in "S," so likely compass
Cant identify what kind of truck it is, but seems likely

Sounds good...but did you know if you get a F on your report card, you can't even have that?

Do you want defense or not?

Bug sprays work on bugs, not humans.

And don't think that this can't be prosecuted for using bug spray on humans, either, because it most certainly can be.

And for everybody else...yeah, play the silly game about it simply being a "weapon of opportunity" of you wish. I get it and honestly discussed this with a couple attorneys for a while over conversations about self defense.

"It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling."

SO...take those arguments elsewhere, please. I've already had long talks about it and likely used every argument anyone is likely to bring up here.

ULTIMATELY... wasp spray is useless against humans. It's minimally effective and this has been proven in testing. So let's stop digesting it as a viable defense to plan around, because it's not.

When it comes to self defense, we shouldn't be actively fooling ourselves on the efficacy of such matters as weapons, tactics, and skills. The people in this forum are smarter than the average bear on such matters.

If a person who is otherwise "in the right" with respect to self defense is going to be charged with illegal possession of non-lethal CS spray (whose ONLY legal use is for self defense), then they're also going to be charged with violations of federal laws for not using chemical bug spray consistent with its labeling.

The difference is CS is actually effective whereas big spray is not.

Probably a stupid idea, but what if the wife owned a gun, say a shotgun secured by a biometric lock for which our felonious friend does not have access.

Something to show intent. Of course when all hell breaks she hands him a spare key.

So, she gives him the finger?

IMG_20200426_072419.jpg This is not a joke... I'm terrified (we're all scared) for my family. I haven't slept in 3 nights. My wife's a wreck, I'm a wreck, our whole lives have been turned upside down. I don't know where to turn, I don't know who to trust. We can't get out fast enough!!! We still have the pandemic going on too. I still have the "application process" hurdle to pass, for a home. I feel we're still in danger. The police have done botched the report. All I ask for is help finding a home.

yeah man I feel for you I really do. I’d be perched up finger on trigger all night too...

Step 1: decide on your budget and at what price you can sell house not at loss.

step 2: google some realtors and speak with at least two. More if needed. Just need to find someone you get best vibe from.

step 3: once have realtor, ask them for recommended loan company. Prequalification will ding credit with hard check so be sure to shop other rates during the grace period. For example speak with your current bank (example Bank of America) and at least one other. Now you will know what amount of loan you can get (and how much house you can afford).

This is enough for now. Along way realtor will let you know what to do to prep house for sale and help you locate home with desired features In Areas of interest etc.

Report back along way man

Do you think the attack was because of something that you did before your lock up? If so, you probably have an idea of who was behind it.
I just can't suspend my common sense long enough to believe that his house was picked at random and no one else on the street had any problem.

Yeah, I too question strongly the “random” nature of this event. Don’t get me wrong, terribly sorry this happened to you. But you have to admit, the one guy on here who has repeatedly opined his loss of rights due to a felony conviction just so happens to be the only one around that has randomly had his house and vehicles lit up in the middle of the night.

I have no doubt it happened, and that it out your family in danger. I have no doubt it sucks strongly to have harsh words and angrysprays as your only defense.

So you won't take offense if I ask about your criminal history when your house happens to randomly be shot up.....

An immediate family member of mine had a violent armed home invasion four years ago. This individual survived with some knocks to the head, stolen valuables, and I moved them out four hours after it happened once the crime scene crew was done fingerprinting the place and interviewing the victim.

A discussion not unlike this one occurred on a forum that predates CFF, and the topic of "random versus targeted" came up. I can’t remember the statistics, but it seems that there is a whole lot higher likelihood of it being targeted (even if it’s a wrong address). So I’d be wondering who is pissed at me, or mine. Or who lived there before if you haven’t been there that long. Sorry if I missed it upthread.

No sir, I won't. It's been discussed in my past threads. I understand why the group feels and thinks the way they do, and don't think for a minute I didn't entertain the idea of... my past came calling back. At the moment, as far as I tell. It's a no, it didn't have anything to do with me, or someone with something personal against me. Even if it was...would that make it okay??? If someone agrees exacting revenge in that way is okay, they need their head checked.

This statement wasn't directed towards you at all my friend. It was directed towards parties who seem to be less sympathetic to your problem than they would be if they didn't factor in your criminal history. I don't know what crimes they assume your spouse and children/dependents committed as well, but it seems evident to me that they feel your sins are enough to justify their apathy across the board.

I happen not to agree with them, whatever your trespasses, the apathy towards yourself and your family is not deserved.

Check your speaking for others at the door!!!!!. You dont know anyones feelings but your own. I didnt see anyone justifying what happened to him. Its quite forward of you to tell him that anyone thinks others FEEL its justified.

What was actually said was if he thought something from his past may be returning upon him.

If you would happen to read what's written instead of injecting what you think others feel towards this situation would be helpful.

, I'm sorry I overlooked whom you were speaking to. I appreciate your response.

I don't think anyone is showing apathy, especially towards the spouse and children. The poster has a criminal background and his home was targeted. I am not a detective but I would guess that someone from his past has found him and sending a message. No honor among thieves, you know, that kind of stuff. His wife and children just happen to be in the way.

I'm not saying your wrong, and I'm not saying your right, but what I will say is...if some of you was to take a stroll through this part of town, on foot, at say... I don't know, maybe after dark. I'd bet some wouldn't want to take that chance, empty handed, and that's a matter of fact.

Someone once said, “If you are going someplace that you feel the particular need to take a gun, maybe you shouldn’t go.”

Your attention should be spent on planning your next address.

I didn't speak for anyone other than myself, I posted my perspective on the behavior of others, that's what the "parties who seem to be less than sympathetic" phrase was all about. If you'd do more reading and less projecting, you'd see that.

You're right that I don't know anyone's feelings but my own, I quite agree with you. However, as I previously pointed out, I was expressly stating my own opinion or interpretation of the conversation, not absolute statements of known fact.
Its quite forward of you to tell him that anyone thinks others FEEL its justified.

I don't think it's very forward to state my perception of others' reactions, and that's all I did. If the shoe doesn't fit, nobody's compelled to wear it. I'm fine with being wrong in what I presumed, I've been wrong before.

You first, I'll be right behind you.

What Matt may have sensed (of course, not putting words or feelings in his mind...er mouth...er keyboard) was that something may have smelled funny about the situation at first to some of us. Anyone who has spent more than a passing amount of time here would know that peoples bullpucky sensors are always on high alert around here. So I see it as perfectly reasonable that some people had a reaction of "Thats terrible, but we would like to see proof." The man showed proof, we saw the police report, pictures, ect. So we know it happened. No one has been callous, in fact many tried to offer suggestions on alternative means of self defense.

For the forums sake, it would >look< pretty damning if we all jumped in with "forget the law! Go get yerself a shooter! In fact, let me help ya!" as we know the leftist gun grabbers would love to find a bunch of gun people talking about arming a felon. We have also discussed his issues with getting a firearm, ad nauseam that were quoted above. So if this is going to be another "It sucks being a felon that cant defend his family" thread, then lets rock...we have done it before, and I doubt anyone has materially changed their perspective on the issue.
