The "Fire-Bowl" thread

I’m building this off to the side of the pool. I need someplace to keep my bowl other than the carport. I’m going to have a cover built for it to keep the water out.

We have an old outdoor glass top table (think cheap from Walmart) that was my wife's Grandmother's, we took the legs off and use that as a topper when not in use. Doubles as a table when needed.

Sometimes you have to get your Chub on beside the fire

First pic is how we ended Saturday night. Or Sunday morning? Whatever.

Lots of good firebowl eats before though. @Studentofthegun came through with some FANTASTIC shrimp kabobs. And I think there was some bacon wrapped chicken ones as well, and some mushroom ones. The wife made stuffed and wrapped deer tenderloins. And brought down a little bucket of sugar snap/snow peas from the garden that were spectacular just as they were. Twas a good coolish Saturday to hang out by the firebowl.

This coming Saturday, not so much. My happy bowl time is almost over until the fall.

Just please don't blow your nut out again throwing the seats into the fire.

Those last 3 pictures were actually from 2 Saturdays ago.

My (I think everyone else too) favorite quote that night (from the ones I can remember) was @Studentofthegun saying "Hey Bill, I'll give ya $5 NOT to do that!". LOL!

Haha yeah did my best to discourage the burning of things that shouldn’t be burnt.

Even though it’ll be warm tomorrow it will cool off into the 70’s pretty quick I’d say.

Could still grill something....

So after all that fancy cookin, @SnowRooster had brought smore makin materials. But my two daughters decided that instead of graham crackers, they would take two fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies, a big hunk of chocolate, and then cook a giant marshmallow, and make their smore sandwiches that way. I ain't mad at em. @Studentofthegun LOL!

It's fairly easy to know where they gained those skills in trying different things and why they are creative thinkers. You've taught them well son.

I need to build a grate for ours. I’ve got an apple tree that needs to come down that I believe would put a nice flavor in some ribeyes. Maybe I can get to that after I finish the cedar pergola my wife wants put up.

@thrillhill, I got one of the large fire bowls years ago from Mr. Thurman. Do you happen to know if he still makes the grates for them or anyone else making grates? I took the fire bowl up to the mountains and want to get a grate for it so I can grill on it.

Thanks

Like to know the answer to that question myself.

I’d like to move up to the xl bowl if they are still available. I’ll probably try and get in touch or stop by in the next couple weeks and see if they are. We have gotten good use out of the large one.

Not sure. I'll give him a holler in the next day or two and find out.

Just talked to Earl.

He has 4 cooking grates that he made at $50 each. (No idea what they look like. He has made a couple different styles over the years.)

He has some bowls ready now.

$200 for large. $150 for medium. $100 for smalls. The smalls are often carious shapes/styles.

He said just make sure to call before you come.

He's an older fella. I never call him after 6pm. Or before 9am for that matter.

Thanks for checking Bill. After I posted the other day, I got to thinking that I had some heavy gauge expanded metal, 1/4" thick, and some heavier wall 1" square tubing. I dug everything out, cut it, prepped it and another forum member welded it together for me.

My bowl is 37" dia., the grate area is 46" x 22" and the handles stick out 9" on each side. Should be plenty strong enough to grill on or put the dutch oven on. Going to take it to the mountains Saturday and start getting it "seasoned".

I will probably head over there next week at some point and see if he has a larger bowl than what I have now and maybe a grilling grate. I need to meet @Dstrbdmedic167 to pick up some wheels and tires he has for sale. If anyone in the Charlotte area wants a bowl, let me know so I can bring one back. Let me know by this weekend because if there is much interest, I probably need to drag a trailer along.

Thanks @thrillhill gonna get up with him about a grate. Guys if you don’t have one of his fire bowls you owe it to yourself to pick one up. @LeeMajors if you purchase one I can pick it up from him and meet you up near Charlotte somewhere. Just let me know.

Thank you. I'll be calling first of the week to see what he has. Planning a trip that way anyway

@Burt Gummer man you got a much better angle on the grill than I did for my picture. Note to self: wearing a headlamp does not make for easy picture takin.

Thank you for the burgers. They were absolutely wonderful.

While we are on the topic though, I did get this one. I just had to get the Barkie collection as a backdrop.

Not sure where I should post but I'm heading to pick up a firebowl tomorrow. If someone around charlotte wants one. Now is the time to get one
Do you have room for a large and a cooking grate? If not, I'll swing by there later in the week. I will have my medium up for sale as soon as I get the large one.
