Wife and I ended up in a whirlwind string of events that resulted in us making an offer on a house in the Fuquay-Varina area this past Sunday. Owners said OK so... time to pick up and move! Realize I haven't been on the site much since there's not much time to shoot these days. Hopefully I'll manage to correct that at some point but growing our little family business means LONG hours since I still have the day job as well.

Pretty excited to get a bit further out from the city than we currently are. Not a huge lot, but we'll have almost 2 acres to stretch our legs vs the .25 we currently have. The big win for me is the 1200 sqft shop that comes with the house that we'll be using for the business. I do have to give up my reloading room since it's a smaller house so if you're in the Waxhaw area check the classifieds for a killer deal on reloading stuff... Having moved it already one time I'm trying to save myself a headache of moving it again. :)

Funny, I move from fuquay to Charlotte and you do the opposite.

Pics of shop please

Congrats. I’ve been around Fuquay for over 45 years now. Still a good place to live.
Couple of photos from the listing... It's a little over 1200 sqft with it's own heat pump, water heater etc. Has a bathroom, separate electricity meter... All good stuff. Only 3 years old

Welcome to the area!
What’s the family business?
Was a reason other than the shop to move 2.5 hrs away?
I get funny looks when I say this but... We make sparkly resin rods for pen makers. Created a product called DiamondCast. It's cast urethane resin with real diamond in it.

We'll also be closer to family we have in the Raleigh/Durham area.

Good for you, there’s a market for them.
Send me some info, my brother makes pens, some for museum gift shops and business execs.

Our retail website is McKenziePenworks.com but you can also find DiamondCast at Turner's Warehouse, Classic Nib, and now Craft Supplies as well. I'm sure he'll be familiar with them. :)

The traffic around your neck of the woods seems to be getting worse too. Any idea when they plan on building the bypass?

Bad traffic... That's funny for us. :) Wife used to drive from Waxhaw to downtown Charlotte to work at the bank. Fuquay-Varina is fairly similar to this area, just maybe 6-8 years behind. Neither of us have to commute now, which is nice!

Don't sell all your loading gear. Just down size some. Can always find a place in the house somewhere. ;) Welcome to the area.
It's already listed at what I think is a great deal. With two full time jobs and young kids I just don't get time to shoot. I've got plenty of loaded rounds from reloading over the years and nothing I'm selling is something I can't replace. A few of my more specialized tools are staying with me... Giraud trimmer, RCE swaging presses, etc. Those are things that are harder to get again.

For anybody that wants examples...I posted these in the Member’s section, so I’ll repost them in the public area. I had a guy Tim recommended make me two pens for me to give to a couple ministers at church. One is a huge UNC fan and the other played football at UNCC. Both of them are from Tim’s DiamondCast blanks. The UNC one sparkles as much as the UNCC one, just doesn’t show up as well in the pics.

And some pics from when I was trying to decide on chrome or gunmetal...

We do like it here in Waxhaw for sure. Minus the fact my current neighborhood is roughly 80% displaced Yankees... There are a few OK ones in the bunch ;) In the end it was the fact we'd be 30 minutes instead of 3 hours away from our parents that really pushed us over the edge vs waiting and finding a place with a shop here. Schools won't be as good for the kiddos possibly but they're pretty smart cookies and ultimately it's about what we promote at home anyways.

Now... if Spectrum doesn't come through for me and run a cable line... the kids are about to learn about buffering as it pertains to internet streaming. 10 meg CenturyLink would be painful for all involved.

Oh I know but... it beats the heck out of the other option. Actually I was amazed the sales guy spent 20+ minutes working with me to get a survey crew to check it out and see if we could hook up the service. I cheated by calling the business sales... but I'm desperate to not be stuck with CenturyLink

Spectrum has an app to stream to TVs so you don’t need their rental boxes. Samsung SmartTVs along with Roku devices and others make it pretty easy as long as your internet router can send a good signal for streaming.

I go past that house when I go to work. The folks that had it did not live there long

The issue is there is no cable to hook a cable modem up to.... ;) They literally have to run cable to the house first. Otherwise we won't be streaming anything lol

Fuquay-Varina is basically Waxhaw, just maybe 6-8 years ago. Farms being turned into subdivisions at an alarming rate... I watched it happen here so it's not unexpected. At least this time we'll have a little bit of property and the shop without having to worry about an HOA like we do today :)
