They answer to all your “mask” questions

Havent you heard, Wearing a mask isnt about protecting the mask wearer, it's about preventing the mask wearer from possibly infecting others.

We had a local Dr post an oped condemning everyone that isnt wearing a mask and how they should be "shunned in public" and how non mask wearers dont care about anyone else but themselves. He was a GP for 40 years, saw 1000s of patients and he never wore a mask during his visits, but now he is all holier than thou about masks.

everyone that isnt wearing a mask and how they should be "shunned in public" and how non mask wearers dont care about anyone else but themselves.

And he's absolutely correct!!! Please, shun the hell out of me, stay at least 1, if not 2 counties away. If you even suspect that I may have been in your neck of the woods, run for your life and don't look back!! Steer clear of me at ALL costs and don't even mumble my name, not even in the darkness!!

I choose to wear a mask when I am going somewhere I suspect that other people will be present in significant numbers. It adds a slight level of inconvenience. I have to remember to take it with me, I have to keep it clean. It is slightly uncomfortable to wear. I don't believe that it is the best defense that I have available, but in the case where I am at risk it COULD make a difference when I need it to. It is better to have it in case I need it than to not have it and maybe find out I was in a situation where it would have made a difference for me. In that respect, it is exactly the same reason I carry a handgun.

That's absolutely correct.

Anti-maskers are right down there with the anti-vaxers IMHO. I personally would feel horrible emotionally as well as physically if I catch Covid 19 and haven't been masking. Knowing full well that there is a good chance that I probably infected others.

Yes masks can cause healthy people problems. Mainly if they aren't using them properly. Especially those stylish cloth masks. I use single use masks and as soon as I touch the outside, I consider it contaminated.

People that don't consider others in times like this are selfish assholes.

But...but..,but I'm an American and my need to express my rights take rule over any reason.

I think there is a profound difference between:

“We recommend you wear a mask.”

And

“You have to wear a mask or else!”

I completely agree that this is yet another example of government overreaching, especially when we have not gotten the final word on effectiveness and risks. I personally view wearing one as being very low risk to me, so I will do it and continue to re-evaluate my stance over time.

Are you sure you are?
Lol, I'm sure about one thing and that is I don't take the word of some lameass politician over medical science. As for being an American I'll put my resume up against your's any day of the week.

On second thought, maybe I'm not as much of an American when compared to the actions of those who abused the Indians, slaves, water boarded captives and such. Takes a special kind similar to those that think their right to spread disease preempts those that are in grave danger once exposed.

Hmmmmm

Medical science has been all over the place on this one. They are also the people that thought h1n1 and sars and ebola and hiv were going to kill us all.

So their word doesn’t mean much.

And as far as resume or pedigree, they don’t carry a whole lot of weight. A person that became a citizen last week and has a firm grasp on the constitution and what it means to be an American has a better resume than someone who has lived here for a long time and “believes” the constitution with a big “but” in front of their conviction.

The government hasnt mandated any mask wearing.

I guess I’m a selfish asshole and so are a lot of other folks.

and the other part is people don’t consider other people in other times so.......

Section 2-C
10. Wearing of Face Coverings All persons in the City and County of Durham are required to wear a clean face covering any time they are, or will be, in contact with other people who are not household members in public or private spaces where it is not possible to maintain social distance. These spaces include grocery stores, pharmacies, business locations and public transit. While wearing the face covering, it is essential to still maintain social distance insofar as possible since social distancing is the best defense against the spread of the Coronavirus.

The government hasnt mandated any mask wearing.

On a state/national level it hasnt, but there have been some local city/county governments that have. Some had to immediately revoke it due to it leading to issues with people disobeying.

Congrats! The first step is acceptance. There's always hope. I'm glad you made it.

I for one try to be considerate of others, but there are those such as yourself that don't. I accept that and have for many years.

Besure to confront your president the next time he goes full American in his abuse of the document.

I am sorry for you that yours lost in the last election but glad she did.
I had to vote for Trump the last election and will have to do the same this time around as well but that doesn't make me blind to a New York liberal pretending to be something he isn't.

Is this where I am supposed to apologize for not conforming to your way of doing things?

Or supposed to be like a lot of other folks and freak out over all this?

Hah, I have seen many things in my short time on this earth. Both good and bad.

I choose to enjoy my life the best way I can. We all eventually bite the dirt

Many other things in life to judge a mans character and if all you're going off of is one thing on an interwebz forum then you chug right along.

I won't loose any sleep

No. Never asked for an apology. Merely stated my personal opinion.

Or supposed to be like a lot of other folks and freak out over all this?

Do what you gotta do. I myself am not "freaking out". Just trying to be considerate of others.

Haven't all of us?

I choose to enjoy my life the best way I can. We all eventually bite the dirt

You do you, I'll do me. Yeah we all eventually die. I just don't understand how someone can willingly put others at risk. As you said, keep chugging along.

The proud willingness to possibly infect others without a care is very telling about someones character.

I won't loose any sleep

I wouldn't expect someone that doesn't give a damn about others to lose a moments sleep.

No. Never asked for an apology. Merely stated my personal opinion.

I know you have an opinion, just like everyone else. Yours just seems a little strong.

Every time you get behind the wheel, you put others at risk.
Every time you sneeze or cough, you put others at risk.

A lot of things put others at risk and we, including you, don't give them a second thought.

I can respect a persons opinion which I do. as we all have them I'm not one that throws a tantrum when someone's opinion is one I don't agree with or isn't in line with mine

There is many other risk that everyone puts themselves and other in everyday. you drive? you put yourself at risk and other do the same.

You eat food? There is a risk in choking.

walking down stairs? risk in falling down and getting a broken neck

Go to the store? Could get shot. Robbed

Getting stabbed with a STD needle from a tweaker doesn't sound fun, hell getting stabbed in general doesn't sound like much fun.

Getting a food born illness doesn't either

Dying from a medical slip up from a doctor sounds a lot worse

Risk are everywhere in life good sir. Far worse things than this COVID crap that we risk everyday.

SO spare me on the risk part.

I wouldn't expect someone that doesn't give a damn about others to lose a moments sleep.

Assume much? Judge much? eh?. meh, far more important people have told me far worse things with a lot worse attitudes on far more important things.

But your assuming that I don't give a damn other is laughable at best.

assume away if that what it takes to get you through your day.

I feel bad for anyone that catches this but I don't for one second feel personally responsible for your health. You have every right to stay home.

I don't believe any "fit" has been thrown. As I said, you do you. I myself will continue to do what I feel is right.

Spare me the everything we do is risky crap. Accidents etc. happen. That's life.

Possibly infecting others when there is an easy way to lessen the risk is no accident.

Yeah @Tailhunter, it is a strong opinion. I happen to have strong beliefs, as you do.

What I do know for a fact that if worn properly, the right masks do significantly lessen the risk of spreading airborne illness.

Sounds like the type that has an STD, doesn't inform the partner and rides bareback anyway, after all she (yes, an assumption) had the right to close her legs.

Wow, You have a vivid imagination and want to blame everyone else for your problems. Try taking responsibility for your own actions sometime.

That's my take on it too. That and it's a fabricated crisis.

I do not hear the pundits say that these precautions such as mask wearing and social distancing will keep the numbers of infections or number of deaths down but rather spread the same number of infections and deaths over a longer period of time so the hospitals do not get swamped. Flattening the curve still results in the same area under the curve. That means that a certain number of people is expected to become infected even if they wear masks and stay 6 feet away from other people.

I graduated from high school in 1969. That was the year of the Hong Kong Flu epidemic that killed 100,000 people here in this country. We did not shut down the schools or the economy. Would only 90,000 people have died if we had? Probably not. Did having Woodstock cause the flu deaths of a whole bunch of hippies? There were probably not any more dead hippies than if they had stayed home, but we will never know for sure. You didn't see the Kennedy folks claiming that Mary Jo died from Hong Kong Flu rather than from drowning. We took normal precautions and carried on with our lives. It was not an election year so it could not become a major political issue.

assuming again that I said you were throwing a fit.

Please reread what was posted. I said "I'm not the one that throws a tantrum." as in if someone doesn't agree with my opinion, that I respect that as we all have our opinions and beliefs, but wait, according some someone in this thread I'm not considerate of people. Hum, I guess helping other people out when they are at a low spot in their life is not not being considerate, not helping juveniles get their life in order while they still have time is not being considerate. Giving people a place to stay while they work through stuff that they have going on in their life to keep them out of jail or off drugs isn't being considerate, helping a family get through tough times isn't being considerate.. assuming I am zeroing you out?, well so far in this thread assuming from a certain someone is running deep. But I am simply stating that I have experienced people throwing a tantrum when someone disagrees with their opinion.

You said it best, and proved a point, "spare you with all the risk stuff, that life" hey guess what..... so are diseases, death, joy, happiness, depression, and everything else.. Wearing a mask may or may not prevent the spread. To be 100% sanitary to prevent ANY diseases you'd have to have a disinfectant spraying on you and everything all the time. I was exposed to far worse crap in Afghanistan than I care to think about.

Lets not even get in to the rate that people live. Lets not take in account how many other things out there that will kill you slower and a lot more painfully. You wanna buy in to all the freakout and panic, by all means do.

at the end of the day, we all do what we have to do and what we think is right.

So, before you come at me sideways again with your "self righteous", I'm gonna try and shame people for not toeing the line with me blah blah blah, , its what is good for everyone if we do this ( sounds a lot like anti-gunners with their gun control laws) please take a step back thinking you're all high and mighty because what someone else does isn't what you would do.

Free will is a wonderful thing and if we were all the same life would be boring

I wonder if they have considered that trying to completely stifle the spread in the population could just ensure a larger "second wave" when everyone lets their guard down and they have not been infected in the first wave?

I understand folks at higher risk trying to dodge getting it at all costs. For most other folks, it's likely just a matter of time anyway. And now that the curve is flattened it's probably as good a time as any.

I don't wear them unless a business has them mandated and I have to be there. Like the DMV to renew my license. Although, they have pretty much given up in Hickory at this point. I take precautions. But I feel the mask is overkill unless you are hacking on everyone around you. In which case, you should probably just stay at home until you figure out what's going on. If you are not right up against someone and in their space I feel like the likelihood of getting this randomly is pretty slim. It's highly contagious in certain instances. But I'm not convinced it's contagious enough to get it just walking around a store passing random people. Even the CDC questionnaire asks about much closer contact than just passing random people.
