Anyone have one? Hoping to hear some hands on experience. Looking at 308s and this one checks a lot of boxes. Seems like a lot of rifle for the money at around $600 street price. I like the Magpul Stock and AR-10 magazine compatibility. Threaded barrel, scope rail, adjustable trigger... Other than being a little heavier than I would prefer (not a deal killer), my only real concern is acceptable accuracy. Ruger makes no guarantee of sub-moa. If it's accurate enough to be a useful 2-300yd hunter and plink 500 to 1000yds, it's everything I want for an entry level, do everything bolt gun...

Wow, that sounds like a lot of gun for the money. If they offer it in 6.5, I may be tempted to sell/trade and AR.

So far, I’ve seen/read nothing but praise about the value and quality of the Ruger American line. They’re not $3k+ custom rifles but they’ll shoot better than most of us can. The fact that models start in the $300 range means it’s tough to pass up.

They do make it in Creedmoor...

I like my American in Blackout. I have heard that the Hunter has the same barrel as the Ruger Precision rifles...

I’ve got a predator 308 that I put in the magpul stock. I love it. It’s been very accurate for the $. I’m shooting 165 gr accubonds over 4064 powder.

What's accurate? 1moa, sub-moa, 1/2 or better? Curious what you are seeing with match grade ammo.

In my 308 I’m shooting about 3/4 moa with my reloads. I’ve not shot anything match grade out of it because I bought it for and use it for hunting. The hornady precision hunter 178’s iirc we’re about 3/4 also.

Picked up a Standard model (22” barrel) in .308 last year at Gander. With the sale they were running and my Good Sam discount, out the door for $250. Put a Magpul Hunter stock on it.

my nephew has the Ruger American in .308 that takes the AI / Ruger mags. It's an excellent rifle and looks good with the Cerakote, Muzzle brake and camo stock. It has a great trigger and is accurate. Alot of gun for the money.

I do know that the Magpul stock weighs....ALOT more than most composite factory stocks. I've had 2 and sold 2.

That's my biggest concern. The Predator is like 6lbs nekkid... The Hunter is well over 10 with glass...

Wish there was a better stock option that didn't weigh as much as the MagPul. I would like to use it for hunting.

I'd just get a regular American and put some carbon arrows in to stiffen it with Acraglas bedding and call it a day. Weight is my enemy hunting on public land...

Well, it is a compact .308 in a full-size stock.

I have a standard Ruger American in .243 Win. This is the first 3 shot group from my hand loads using 85gr Sierra hpbt and Imr-4350. I'm sure, with tweaking, it'll tighten up nicely.

I'd kill for one of the American Ranch rifles in 6.8SPC, but would settle for a .300BLK or 7.62x39. A buddy has both & loves 'em.

The American Hunter looks fun & I was mulling over getting one as my first .308, but after shooting a friend's Scout Rifle, a lightish 16" or 18" .308 with some decent glass is a perfect fit for me.
