Thing is.... he won’t do time.
He’s there as a “mental health” patient, and by definition is not liable for his actions.
My dad worked at a psychiatric hospital. The armed cops would regularly drop off drunks as opposed to dealing with them at the station.
In the precinct, a violent drunk could be “handled”. At the hospital they could only “properly restrain”. But the drunks knew once they were inside, they would never be charged for what they did.
My dad was beaten by one of these scumbags. The guy was in full control of what he did. The scumbag and the police were never charged. My father was disabled for life, and lived out a meager existence for the rest of his days.
As you might imagine, I am not a fan of “not guilty by reason of mental defect”.
