30% Tax on Firearms and 50% on Ammo

39% of the money collected from these taxes would be put toward research on and programs for gun violence prevention. The legislation does not specify how the funds would be allocated or where the other 61% of the money would go.

Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., introduced in January H.R. 5717, a bill that would strengthen measures to prevent gun violence. It has evoked mixed reactions from the public and moved to the forefront of conversation surrounding legislation not related to the coronavirus pandemic.

A Facebook user made a post in late April calling the bill, known as the Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act of 2020, “tyranny.” The user said the bill “will add 30% tax on all guns and 50% tax on all ammo.”

Hank Johnson.............the name and gift that keeps on giving. First his Guam prediction, now this.

Soooo what you’re saying is we’d be directly funding the further erosion of our rights by exercising those very rights. Got it.

Good point sir........and we'll owe it to those who pay Hank Johnson the very least attention on his latest efforts.

We do not need more taxes for bogus research. Keep the criminals locked up instead of early release. Why charge me with half a dozen crimes when I end up with a plea deal and serve months not years? Serve consecutive not concurrent sentences. Have a gun on you during a crime, 5 years extra. Brandish that gun, 5 additional years, discharge that gun and you add 5 more years. That is 15 years on top of any other penalties once convicted.

That is really going to screw up our military and law enforcement spending budgets.

This country was founded by law breakers, Hell raisers, smugglers, and tax cheats.

It will only be revived by the same sort of men.

Unfortunately, a majority of Americans, including gun owners, bend the knee to every edict and decree because the title of Law Abiding is more cherished than that of Free Men and Free Women.

Or, just stop with the victimless crimes and focus on the bad guys who are actually hurting other people. Wouldn't need any mo' money for that when you suddenly have 50% less 'criminals' around.

I know, I know. I'll show myself the door.

You and I have been saying the same thing. Look at how many law abiding gun owners get involved in protecting their rights. I personally have only spoken a couple times with leaders on gun rights. Both face to face because they may not care but a letter is no more than another piece of junk mail. I took Gun rights for granted for 45 years while there was no push for limitations. Never even knew an assault gun ban existed because I never had friends who owned one or at least talked of it. Still don’t know what an assault weapon is and don’t own one. My guns are liberator tools.

Yeah they have been having wet dreams about that route for some time. Just make the whole thing so onerous and expensive that people can't afford it anymore.

Many avenues, and will probably come down to a court case .... holding the gun mfg's liable has been promised.

Wasn’t a revolt started a long time ago involving taxing of tea? Hmmmm
