The front of the house and porch are getting a makeover.
I had already stripped the walls and windows to the original shellac.
( I’ll try and recap with those photos later... need to find them )
Then primed and repainted. Last year. Beautiful 174 year old shiplap pine boards hung with squarecut nails.
The porch floor was planed flat, sanded, primed and painted. These are regular PT 2x6 that had replace the original some time back.
There wasn’t a handrail originally, but we have young granddaughters so that was a must do as well.

The planter boxes...
The porch is missing color so my wife asked me to make planter boxes.
They will be hung on the handrail.
So down to Lowe’s I go for wood.
Just pine boards but I’ve sealed them with spar varnish. And made a tub with pool liner. Hopefully they last a good while.

Tried a beige color first.. didn't look right on the house.. so went simply white for that historical paint color.

The front door is going to get this old original look like below...when I'm done with it.

Looks good!

Nice work and I applaud the effort on the drains.

Maybe cedar would've been a better choice though.

yeah, Cedar, White oak, Redwood. Black Locust would have all been better... Got impatient in trying to source some.
I doubt these will be my last..

If you end up making more, waddya think about wrapping the liner over the top and covering it with a molding? That would give you a slightly higher coverage as well as getting the staples higher.

Yep, I once made a set of Barristers bookcases out of pine to test the concept before using a more expensive wood. The end result is I have a set of pine Barristers bookcases.

That is a good idea.

I covered over the staples and the top edge with some white polyurethane caulking. After planting and a little mulch. wont see it.

Nice planters. And just think when the neighbors get dealt with they can double as caskets. Even lined nicely.
