Dining areas not to reopen??

One in HP
One in Greensboro
One in Kernersville
One in Asheboro
One in Danville
and that one there in Salisbury

There might be more, those are the ones that I know of and have been to
One in Huntersville. One somewhere in the Matthews/Indian Trail/Monroe area (on that stretch of 74, just not sure what the actual address is)

Definitely more of them than I thought after trying the first one.

Sonic, Cookout, CharGrill... I remember Wendy's used to have a drive through only store in Raleigh but the location sucked.
You’ve never been to the most disappointing Chargrill around. They have one near Davidson College.

Imagine the grill area you’re used to, and then they build a restaurant around it. Actual cashiers standing at registers. The only “long paper tickets” are the story about them on the back of the menu. :(

I went to PDQ today while out running errands. Walked in the door at 11:58a. Dining room is open 11a-4p. There were about a half-dozen people in the whole place. I just wanted to eat something without it being in the car or back at the house. :D

Lj and I went to our favorite little Mexican joint, everything looked the same. no foolish BS going on, no closed tables, the wait staff was wearing masks but the food was as good as ever. I left an outstanding tip and the waiter thanked me profusely....

I was afraid this might happen since running the place at 50% seems unlikely to be profitable.

Cookout built the brand on its drive thru but changed to indoor dining a lot. Dining out is entertainment. It brings business. How many people after working 50 hours a week say “let’s go have a night out and eat in the car. We are meeting John and Jane. They are parking next to us.”

All lot of people thought when the eating places opened there would be an avalanche of diners. It didn't happen. It will be slow to come back.

I went to the Applebees in the quay for lunch today.I was the only one sitting down eating in the joint.Kinda nice but they won't be open long this way.

The one factor no one can predict is how long the consumer will put up with/demand drive thru only. Personally, I’m tired of waiting in long lines wrapped around buildings, particularly when it means being stuck on a road because the drive thru line extends out into the road.

I'm in total agreement, besides I'm tired of having Orkin spray my truck every month for bugs looking for crumbs....

Chain restaurants have sucked for a long time (longer than I can remember). Good to see them go tits up IMO. Maybe more people will learn to cook at home if more of these cookie cutter places go out of business. Hell, it'd have to be a lot healthier I would think.

No matter how bad the food sucks, it sucks worse that people will be losing jobs.

I guess that's a matter of opinion. I'll bet you all day long that shitty meals at chain restaurants have killed more people overall than what lost/or will lose their jobs due to a novel virus - jobs come and go eveyday; lives,... not so much.

I work for a fast food restaurant. I'm in management. I've been in the business for 41 years. I understand and can read a P&L.

During The first week of May we averaged almost 6k in each day for those days. I have been at this location since August of last year. Thus was the biggest week since I have been here.

Drive thru line times are tracked by car. Targets are set. If you have a team that are focused and who can work off each other you can push cars through with no problem. At my location cars back up in the street waiting to get in line. Not because we are slow, but because the move through quickly. This morning we averaged 3minutes flat for a line time fior a Saturday breakfast. We only had one car that was over six minutes.

During this mess our dining room has been open. We also do Door Dash deliveries. It is easier to operate when you only have to focus on drive thru. You schedule less people because you don't have to clean up behind people who make messes in the dining room. You will have increased paper cost due to everything being carry out.

When dining rooms do open you will not like how things are. All orders will be bagged to go. You will have to eat out of the bag if you eat in. No serving trays. No beverage bar refills either. No condiments on a beverage bar so if you want salt, ketchup, ect you will have to wait while someone goes and gets it. If you get a refill you will get a fresh cup. When you get up the table will have to be cleaned before the next person sits down to eat. When all of this starts people working and supporting drive thru will be redeployed to dining room. This will make things harder.

The point of this is to reduce the amount of contact that the customer has with the food operation. Less contact, less exposure.

Only those people who can shift gears and think on their feet will be sucessful. I have seen Fatz and Dennys close locally. The local Mexican restaurants were doing take out. If you can't change you won't survive this. I don't expect some of these locations to reopen. Employees will be hard to find as they are now on the government hit.

But yes, they can be as profitable just running DTW only. Lastly, when given lemons some people make better lemonade than others.

As the parent of a teen who will have his license next summer, how do you think the need for efficient crews will impact hiring of teens with no previous work experience?

Teachable? Respectful? Honest?

Reminds me of one of my most memorable hires. So this kid is in the interview. Every third word is Sir. I ask him if his parents were strict on him. Yep. His parents are Filipino. I quit asking questions. Tell him he's hired. This kid literally bounced all the time he worked for me. I had him for eight weeks before he went off to college. I knew this going in but to have him that time was great.

Dress to impress. Nice clothes. Not The Sunday Easter clothes. No shorts halter tops tube tops. Wife beater T's.

Turn off your phone. Don't bring it in.

Complete the application. Check spelling.

Be respectful. Be honest.

Some places check social media and other online background checks.

Lastly If hired. Be on time. Work hard even if the others are not. Someone will notice.

For every 1 job lost inside the restaurant 4 jobs in manhours are lost as well. That is 5 jobs. The more unemployment the less other type of jobs are willing to pay. There is a harsh fallout of this damnpanic coming.

Fast food is a treat for me, and most of the time I like eating in the car. Grab something, find a nice spot to park for a bit, hop over to the passenger side with the seat reclined and enjoy.

My car is cleaner than most fast food places, no one bothers me, music is always what I like.

But those that know me know I have the most awesome vehicle, so spending meal time in it isn't a chore. :)

I eat sitting on the tailgate of the truck while watching the Mexican window washing gals at whatever development I'm at.

Makes sense more than ever. Lower cost, smaller footprint, simpler concept to run. You can have a few outside seats even...
Yes, tell me about that location, always goofed up the order, then you have to double back to get it fixed. Mexican take out took over the location.

Lenoir cookout also has a dining area, the rich tourist that pass through town on the way to blowing rock can't be expected to eat in their cars
False. Rich tourists get pulled over by greedy cops in Lenoir. Rich tourists are misers. Rich tourists drive through Lenoir without buying anything to spite them. :p

Before this bs started, there was a food truck near my work. Kept telling us they were going to open up in one of the open storefronts in town. Nowhere to eat but picnic tables, which is ok during warmer months up here, but you're stck in your car in wintertime.

Feb timeframe i asked the wife if she wanted to go eat there and she said nope, didn't want to sit in a cramped vehicle. Pretty much stopped going after that, and its been the same for all places during this bs. I want to go out, sit, relax.

I can say if what was alluded to earlier (bags, no refills, etc), is the new norm, I'll save a ton of money as i wont be eating out.
