carry while wearing a mask

I don't think anyone will enforce it even though it is illegal and I don't see anything that says anything about being armed.
  • North Carolina General Statutes 14-12.8. Wearing of masks, hoods, etc., on public property
No person or persons shall in this State, while wearing any mask, hood or device whereby the person, face or voice is disguised so as to conceal the identity of the wearer, enter, or appear upon or within the public property of any municipality or county of the State, or of the State of North Carolina. (1953, c. 1193, s. 7.)

I cannot believe that you think this is an issue...... Drink much Kool Aid??
I cannot believe you can't see why this might be an issue... in 2020... with our current gubernator... after the Wake County range events...with the MN CHP holder having his gun confiscated being a current topic in the news... (insert numerous other examples here).

If a body were to be carrying legally, get pulled over or encounter police in their official capacity while wearing a mask, and said LEO had a less-than-chivalrous attitude about armed citizens ('cause, you know, they might escalate things per Fox News' reporting), then the legality of "wearing while bearing" could very well become an issue.

Yep, just wearing a mask is illegal in NC

I would wager that the vast majority of interaction the police has with most people is during traffic stops. So if you are wearing your mask while driving...
I see folks wearing masks while driving, even a family in a suv had them on.

So if you are wearing your mask while driving...
Of if you put yours on when you got stopped, before you rolled down the window, because you realized the officer would be less than 6' away.

Also, then you could use someone else's license!*

I'm not aware of any prohibition against it and I do it routinely.

My mask is blue so the koolaid won't stain it a different color.

Seriously why the snide comments? I've seen it in several threads with no explanation to follow, just snark and silence.

I wear a mask for my protection and for yours. Got something to say about that?

It's about hiding your identity. Just wear one if these on the outside if the masks. :D

Personally, I like this one...

General statutes and Emergency Powers (that we all wish had never been granted the position) dont mean s#it to the Poe Poe. They can and will put the bracelets on you anytime they want to. Then it's up to a magistrate/judge what happens next.

I'm not worried about it.

Being charged with wearing a mask simply while otherwise legally carrying concealed is not likely to go over well in the courts.

Granted...I ain't no lawyer, so my opinion is worth a cup of coffee at McDonalds if you add a dollar to it.

However, this kind of looks bad when it comes out in court that the government is using deliberately conflicting statutes/ executive orders to hang a charge on a citizen who is not otherwise acting in the commission of a crime.

Wearing a mask for COVID-19 while carrying concealed is not the same as wearing a mask during the commission of felony assault or robbery while carrying concealed.

And, because I am who I am, here's a Heinlein quote from The Moon is a Harsh Mistress:

"I will accept any rules that you feel necessary to your freedom. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do."

I wear and carry. No problems yet.

In both cases, better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6 (or 8, I’m a fat fart)

Please don't turn it into a hate thread....

Interesting statutes (complete article attached)....The mask laws seem to originate from prohibiting the Klan from what I can tell.

§ 14-12.11. Exemptions from provisions of Article.
(a) The following are exempted from the provisions of G.S. 14-12.7, 14-12.8, 14-12.9, 14-12.10 and 14-12.14:
(1) Any person or persons wearing traditional holiday costumes in season;
(2) Any person or persons engaged in trades and employment where a mask is worn for the purpose of ensuring the physical safety of the wearer, or because of the nature of the occupation, trade or profession;

Seems like they could "wiggle" this exemption since ALL trades/employment seem to be covered in the current situation...but I am only covered if I am working?

Surprised there wasn't an emergency change. I wonder if this is covered in an executive order?

To get jammed up over this without committing a crime would have to involve the biggest @$$hole cop on the planet. Not that it can't happen, but I [allegedly] J-walk all the time w/ no issue sort of thing.

That being said, one of the craziest things on the books in NC that needs to be appealed and would be the only rationale way which this would occur systematically is by being 'required' to notify LEO that you are concealed carrying during an official interaction. that's not even something on the books in northern liberal f&^K land states and should be buried deep in the bowels of obsolete law. In that case, its following the law, NOT committing a crime that has the potential to jam you up...but again, how many LEO?...anyway, it is a sad day for all indeed when THAT is on the list of items a 'damn yankee' could try and 'change our laws and culture' with :/

Some local governments have mandated mask wearing, the Mayor in Durham for example. If you are concealed permit holder, no worries with the mask or without it.

what are the rules about carrying (concealed or open) while wearing a mask in NC

What makes you think this is prohibited? As far as I know there are no prohibitions of wearing a mask while carrying concealed. Ill check my book but nothing is ringing any bells, i teach CCH class in NC.

I don’t wear a mask ... I am one of the “dumb idiots” as I’ve been called. I did have a little fun with it though a few days back ... a Karen wannabe made a snide comment and I turned to her and informed her I was one of the first to receive my C-19 vaccination last week in Raleigh before the day’s House session started so I am okay. The look on her face was near priceless ... :D

I know it is in some states and I (in March) would bet at least with open carry the police would have been called if you wore a mask and a gun

I don't wear mask a lot either. Always gloves, mask depending on my risk of getting sneezed or coughed on. I want to be exposed to trace amounts of virus if possible in hopes its enough to illicit immune response. I hedge my bets that someone 'breathing' few feet away is just the right amount.
