In the last ten years our dogs have cost my wife about a dozen x-rays, at least one broken bone. More recently, bruised clavicle, bruised rotator cuff, 3 MRI, more x-rays......
The dogs themselves haven't had any injuries and nothing more that routine vet care. Ha!
The last one occurred when she was taking the dogs out on two leashes. She opened the door and the dogs saw a rabbit. They lunged forward, hard and pulled her off balance into a face plant.
Fun stuff.

LOL. sorry not funny but I feel your pain. We have a 110# German shepherd, he is wearing my wife out. (pic is my avatar)

Stitches, bruises, fractured wrist, ACL, etc. etc.

Before you open the door.......firm grip on leash, bend the knees a bit for a lower center of gravity and tuck your elbow in a bit.....

I feel your pain.....

We have the retractable leashes......the rope burn from one of those can be painful for a few days!

I have a greyhound, boy will she try and chase other small animals, if you're not paying attention, 70lbs of fast powerful dog is starting to run.

I lost my dog last year and I haven't gotten another dog yet. One of the things that that keeps troubling me is the cost of the veteran care when they get sick. You can spend big money now at the vet. Spent about 4k on the last one in 2 years. I've had many Dogs( Best friends) in 50 years and I'll probably get another one ,but the cost makes me think now.

Our first pug had to have an ear canal removed due to super bad infections, etc. Not cheap. Like could have bought a new roof and had left over cash for a nice rifle kinda not cheap.

So agree.. kids are expensive...one way or another!

as AR10 posted: pet insurance.
we have had it for all our four dogs.
saved us so much money.

Wife got the MRI report today. Actually has the frightening "possible causes" listed for the cyst around her clavicle.
The radiologist listed every possible cause he considered.
More tests needed to eliminate the worst cases.

past month well maybe a month and a half I've dropped close to $1700 on my Emma. She's the first dog I loved since I was a kid she's 6 right now. They found she has an enlarged upper half of her heart, Vet is saying certain meds and a strict low-fat diet. No problem on that part. Meds running around $150 for 2 supplements which now I've found I can get for a fraction of the price but actual heart meds run $75 a month but for her, I'd pay whatever she's my baby

$200 for a wellness visit with rabies shot and nail clippings, ridiculous. Told my mom this and she say to me, "You know we have Always had a dog and we never took the dog to the vet for anything but a rabbies shot. We didn't clean their teeth, or get any of these x-rays and blood tests. They all lived good lives."

I would rather drop thousands on my dogs than pay one more damn cent of income tax.
My father came down with ITP (Google it). He spent a solid six months in the VA hospital in Asheville. In that six months he was at Duke University Hospital for six weeks. His hospital bills had to have been in the millions. I told mom that because of the care he received I would never complain about paying my federal taxes ever again. Never.

Dang man. Truly hope it works out for the best, and shes feeling better.

She was getting better when we were still bowling. But the lack of bowling made things worse, thus finally going for the MRI.
It is possible that the change in activity was coincidental.

Wife had found out from her doc that "worst case" is off the table. Her routine panel excluded it. Nice.
PT and meds.
