Raising a blue jay

Looks like a fledgling. Or very close to being considered a fledgling.

It's not unusual for them to "fall" out of nests and the usual recommendation, if they're otherwise uninjured and active, is to put them in bushes or similar near the nesting site, especially if the parents are still around. This will help shelter them from predators.

The parents will still continue to care for them because this is a natural occurrence.

If they're not yet fledglings, the recommendation is to restless then to their nest, if possible.

Ran across this yesterday:

Too early for a flow chart, but thanks.

Crow Biden is doing fine and loves the food!

Yup, that's why I did what I did with the baby sparrows. They were fully feathered and just hadn't yet figured out how to fly.

I’m chuckling quietly in the bathroom so the family doesn’t think I’m laughing at my own feces.

speaking of.... guess what I’m doing

This has been a great thread where Troy has demonstrated the compassion to help animals that have experienced unfortunate situations. Once again, it shows the caliber of people that this forum attracts. However, I am totally surprised and disappointed that @Jeppo has not even made the first comment.

He's too busy closing threads in BST.

Did you need @Lil D to help out with an olive oil covered finger?

You are now "The Birdman from South Carolina"! BSC

You could put a dash board camera on him.

He will be your spy in the sky!

Some years back a friend of the family rescued a fawn. Sparkles (his wife named him) was given his own stall in the barn and taken care of for a month and a half. When Sparkles started to get a little aggressive in head butting and such out he went. Sparkles managed to hang around in the lower pastures with some older horses and eat well for 2 seasons ... until he came up started heading past the barn and then road ... can you say grilled venison? Hope CB hangs around for you guys and as a semi-wild friend.

That's my hope. I don't expect him/her/it to light on my shoulder when we step outside, but it would be cool to know that it's right over there and approachable.

Looks like it's already laid some eggs.

Flight lessons began today.
Hmmmm ... but I sure doubt he’s potty trained ... clean up on Buck 3!!

Oh yeah, try to cover window glass or doors he might not see and fly into ... I know you’ve turned of the ceiling fans.

Are we married? My wife asked me if I turned off the ceiling fan. Duh. Haha.

If you keep him one enough to train ... and have a VARIABLE speed ceiling fan you can start and keep it very slow ...

It’s been 10 days ... updates?

Nothing extraordinary.

We feed it all day long, and several times a week we let it loose in the bonus room to fly around and crap on my stuff.

It's almost fully feathered on its top, but still has a belly full of down.

Dang, can’t believe bird is still hangin.

Good job.
