I have these berries popping up all over my yard. What are they? The picture of the flower is the accompanying flower.

Great grandma always called those "snake berries".
Snake berries is what everyone called them growing up in the '50s.
Yes! I remember telling a kid on the playground in preschool not to eat one because my moms side of the family told me they were snake berries. Lol!

Yep, snake berries. As a kid I always imagined snakes eating them, but I never saw a snake near them.

What did Eulle Gibbons say about pine cones?:)

hrm. got a bunch growing around the back side of my house. I thought they were strawberries that just weren't growing very well.
appear to be in the same family as real strawberries, different genus and species.

which reminds me... i should snip off the ueaten/shriveling strawberries from the plants my wife picked up and chop them for planting reasons

I have quite a few of these growing in my yard as well. Didnā€™t notice them last year or the year before but really seeing them this year. I thought they were wild strawberries of some sort. I donā€™t got nothin but weeds growing in my yard, so it was at least cool to have something different pop up. Cool to know what they actually are.

Thatā€™s very good to know. Gonna pick a few and test that out.

They are edible, but have no flavor. They ARE good to use making jelly, as they are rich in pectin and will make your other berries go farther.
