Interesting problem at Cherokee Guns in Murphy, NC

Well it's not required by law for bicycles like it is for motor vehicles but good try.
Right, but as a taxpayer, how am I screwing myself by having it registered in a different state?

Wait...I thought taxation was theft...

It most certainly is once it’s paid once but the it never ceases on down the line of all the purchasers plus on wages. Even the British Empire was more prudent.

Well, if we all tagged our vehicles in other states, NC wouldn't have money to maintain our roads. But hey, go ahead karma just might bite you if you get pulled over on it.

Except the free market in this case allowed for illegal activity to take place on his property, assuming the “TN tags” comment is true.
I drove a rental car for the last 4 days that had California tags... That doesn't mean I'm a California resident.

Being rude is not a crime. Being rude doesn't deserve someone butt hurt to making false and public accusations to deliberately call someone a thief and a robber. That is a crime.

It certainly is and I believe I said as much.

I'll be looking forward to further updates.

Oh Im good then, I never use the highway with this thing :D:p:D

But that's ok, I'll keep screwing all of you NC taxpayers by riding on the streets

Dont worry SOR, I pay enough taxes for you too Anyone who can get out of paying any kind of N.C. makes me proud. We pay way to much to begin with.

ETA: *potentially

i know a lot of people who keep original plates for quite some time when moved out of state. If I didn’t want to get my pistol license or re register my business blah blah I probably would be too lazy to go to DMV too until absolutely need to.

anyway, store owner is a giant turd if he’s going to ruin 2 peoples lives because he’s butt hurt over not making his $18 margin. I will mail him $18 to STFU and not ruin innocent lives of benign unconstitutional BS. Damn I don’t like this guy!

Shouldn't you be paying for tags and taxes on the car in NC instead of VT?

NCDMV is a nightmare to deal with on anything that has a lost title, the bonding process is extremely expensive (with no promise of actually getting the title). Its commonly done to skirt strict state title laws.

VT doesn't title vehicles older than 10 years old IIRC, so to register there you aren't required to have a title. So, if you come across _______ with no title (provided not stolen) you can get an out of state VT registration and tags mailed to you. Now you can drive it legally on the street.

Once this is done, you can go to the NCDMV with your VT registration and since VT doesn't title older vehicles (and NC knows this) NC will now issue a NC title for it to be registered in the state.

Is it possible the the state of NC is the one screwing the taxpayers, and maybe @HMP found a way out of it? I know it seems really crooked to try to not give more money to the state by paying an annual tax on property that he already owns, that he already paid taxes on when he bought it, every year, when he already pays taxes on gas, and maybe tolls as well, to maintain the roads.

That's the plan...well, was. Now Ijust want to screw all of you over since you are all taxpayers and, obviously, I pay no road taxes...

But, at least as Im screwing NC taxpayers Im still not a huge d-bag like the Cherokee Guns guy spreading libel about a 'thief'

sounds like you could clear a salvage title that way also

The branded status would follow the VIN in the NMVTIS database. It would likely be noted on the "new" title issued but I do not know this for a fact. Either way, if the accident/incident was ever reported to insurance there would be evidence in a title search/report.

This is not a title washing scheme, it simply gives people an avenue to get a car/bike back on the road legally when some states make it either a) Not worth the money to use "their" process (costs more than the vehicle is worth) or b) Just downright forbid registering a vehicle with out a paper title in hand.

VT has made a TON of money off of this. There really is no reason NCDMV makes things so expensive/difficult but on the other side of that coin NCWRC is extremely easy to deal with when settling title issues with vessels.

Don't hurt yourself while patting yourself on the back.

Talk to me about 9mm vs 45ACP, which is best?

What? That’s not allowed? I thought this was the thread for derailments of derailments, what gives????

I bought a Stratocaster from a kid right outside the front door of a Guitar Center.
Then I walked in and bought strings for it.

Slept like a baby that night having scored a nice guitar for a great deal.

I sold a Strat to a guy in a GC parking lot, and I was friends with the store manager. He told me as long as I did it in the parking lot and not in the store he didn’t have a problem with it.

I’ve sold a bunch of guns to gun stores over the years. Never once announced my intentions to said store until I got inside the store.

One of the gunstores shared a parking lot in a strip center, some of the others didn’t.

I’d be inclined to never darken the door of this gunshop.

How far away from the gun store do you need to be to make a private deal for this to be "okay"? Is it an issue because it happened in right outside the store? What if it happened in the parking lot next to the gun store? Or the parking lot across the street? Or at the guy's house?

No deal is made until money and product change hands. IF there was some kind of legal contract then I guess that could be an exception... but judging by the reaction there was no such contract.

It seems like a bit of a douche move, IF they had already agreed on price etc. - but if that were the case, why had the deal not been done. Even so, a douche move is not a crime.

I knew I had heard of these guys previously (without actually hearing about their business)

They're the ones who put up the billboard mocking 'the Squad' of liberal congresscritters AOC et al.

They finally took it down after getting 'threats' but as they say, no publicity is bad publicity.

Seems to me they should do a little housecleaning, and concentrate on their core business aka their customer service.

3.5 star Google rating is really crappy for a small town gun shop.
